Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by assisting faculty in the development, implementation, preparation and set-up of undergraduate teaching laboratories such as general biology (BI101 and BI102), human anatomy and physiology (BI215 and BI216), microbiology (BI220), cell biology (BI226), and genetics (BI303). The manager will supervise work-study students, coordinate ordering, and provide instruction for teaching laboratories as needed within the department.
This is a faculty ranked position.
Essential Functions
* Provides lead direction for the safe and efficient operation of the biology teaching laboratories, to include general biology (BI101 and BI102), human anatomy and physiology (BI215 and BI216), microbiology (BI220), cell biology (BI220), and genetics (BI303). These courses run approximately 15-18 lab sections each semester. Weekly setup includes the organization of display models, tissue slides, and animal materials (including live animals), as needed.
* Cultures and maintains living materials for use in the biology teaching laboratories. Cares for animals and plants used in biology teaching laboratories.
* Coordinates the inventory, storage, and maintenance of supplies, lab ware, and instruments essential to the operation of the biology teaching laboratories.
* Coordinates the ordering with the College office manager. Establishes time and cost estimates (accountable for managing funds/budgets). Prepares quotations.
* Teaches 8-12 contact hours per contract year of general biology, microbiology, cell biology, and/or possibly upper-level laboratories in the candidate's specialty. May serve as backup to teach lectures for faculty.
* Provides direction and supervision to undergraduate laboratory assistants and work-study students.
* Provides support and assistance related to facilities and equipment issues and repairs. Equipment maintenance to include autoclaves, centrifuges, tissue culture incubators, refrigerators, laminar flow hoods, and microscopes.
* Develops and implements policies, procedures, and standards for lab operations to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality control of the laboratory and compliance with federal, state, and university regulations and standards. Coordinates with the University Chemical Hygiene Officer.
* Supports faculty with their undergraduate teaching laboratories and lecture demonstrations.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Bachelors degree in related field and five years' related laboratory research experience required. Experience with molecular biology, cell culture techniques, quantitative RT-PCR, RNAseq, ELISAs, Western blotting, Bio-Plex, flow cytometry, and other cell and molecular analytical techniques beyond educational training. Experience working with mice and rats required. Knowledge of immunology, physiology, and metabolism. Knowledge of statistics, as applied to biomedical research. Proficient with spreadsheet and database applications. Effective writing and organizational skills required.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience working with large animals (pigs). Knowledge of and experience in working with mesenchymal and other types of stem cells. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop desirable.

Lactalis US Yogurt, part of the Lactalis family of companies, is currently hiring a Lab Tech based in Brattleboro, VT .
Perform timely and accurate evaluations and analysis of raw materials, products, processes, and facilities that support the efficient manufacturing and shipment of quality products according to specifications at our manufacturing facility. Reporting to the Lab Supervisor.
This is a 3rd Shift Position 10 pm - 6:30 am
15% Shift Differential
Hourly Wage: $22.50
From your EXPERTISE to ours
Key responsibilities for this position include:
Responsible for all aspects of food safety and quality as defined in plant and department procedures.
Collect, analyze, and evaluate samples from each step of yogurt production and approve for use in production or distribution using various test equipment, test procedures, and methodology.
Hold product based on specifications and product knowledge.
Prepare and add sensitive ingredients to the product during various points of the process, including, but not limited to: culture, vitamins, and minerals.
Monitor and approve production equipment sanitation, start-up, and performance using control devices and tests.
Monitor the environment of the plant using various test equipment and procedures and communicate results to the operations team on a regular basis, to include, but not limited to: air sampling, swabbing drains.
Perform audits on Good Manufacturing Practices in all areas of the plant.
Prepare paperwork for use in reporting results to State Agencies.
Maintain and calibrate test equipment using control devices and tests.
Communicate with operations employees regarding issues, results, and status of evaluations daily.
Maintain good hygiene at all times.
Perform other duties as assigned
Verifies compliance and alerts QA Supervisor and/or Manager of any deviations from approved product specifications.

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in Vermont is $16.10-$21.00.
