The Laboratory Analyst is responsible for performing testing and analytical functions to support a nuclear fuel production facility. The role involves reagent preparation, sample analysis, instrument calibration and troubleshooting, result calculations, data management, and operation of laboratory instrumentation. This position specifically focuses on the analysis of uranium and other materials used in fuel production.
Responsibilities
+ Certify for assigned job functions and perform analyses in mass spectrometry to determine isotopic contents of nuclear materials using ICP-MS.
+ Conduct wet chemistry analyses to determine chemical composition and impurities using titrimetric, gravimetric, colorimetric, and chromatographic methods.
+ Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations through environmental testing.
+ Evaluate material properties through metallurgical analysis, including metallography, mechanical, and corrosion testing.
+ Perform duties in radioactive material-controlled areas and pass Nuclear Safety Training.
+ Handle acids, bases, solvents, and radioactive materials using appropriate PPE and safety protocols.
+ Apply precision techniques such as pipetting, titration, analytical weighing, and volumetric dilutions.
+ Operate Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and instrument control software.
+ Monitor equipment performance, respond to alarms, perform preventive maintenance, and execute minor repairs.
+ Perform unit conversions, interpret manuals, engineering drawings, and software programs.
+ Prepare reagents and working standards following proper storage requirements.
+ Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a physical science from an accredited institution.
+ Minimum 18 months of experience in a commercial or military laboratory environment.
+ At least 1 year of experience in ICP Spectrometry, Ion Chromatography, Liquid or Gas Chromatography, or Metallurgical Analyses.
+ Demonstrated experience with standard analytical laboratory methodology (titrimetry, gravimetry, spectrophotometry).
+ Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical information both verbally and in writing.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Previous experience in the nuclear industry and/or working with uranium.
+ Experience using a computer-based Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
+ Experience in electronic data transfer and/or digital image analysis.
+ Previous experience in production support laboratories.
+ Ability to work various shifts and overtime as needed.
+ Ability to lift and carry up to 45 lbs.
+ Ability to pass Ishihara vision test for quality control.

Responsibilities include:
Support Global Nuclear Fuel's nuclear safety culture, where work is performed with an overriding priority on integrity, safety, security, and quality.
Work effectively and make positive contributions in a dynamic team environment. Partner with manufacturing operations ensuring consistent delivery of analyses required to meet customer and operations requirements.
Identify technical solutions to complex chemical and materials challenges in support of new products or emerging issues.
Apply appropriate use of laboratory, analytical and statistical techniques.
Perform data and statistical analysis using strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ensure team members are provided adequate training and support to assure safe and compliant laboratory practices that comply with the Chemical Hygiene Plan in a nuclear regulated environment.
Support, encourage, and facilitate excellent Human Performance and Lean Manufacturing principles.
Perform selected non-daily testing and non-routine testing to support production and troubleshooting. Understand capital expense budgeting and procurement processes. Lead or participate in equipment selection, purchasing, method development, procedure writing, and training, etc.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements :
Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline such as Chemistry, Metallurgy, Material Science, or Engineering.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a chemical laboratory, including laboratory equipment troubleshooting.
Technical proficiency with
at least

Understanding of computer system fundamentals including relational databases, computer hardware and software, and computer networks. Experience operating and programming the laboratory information management system (LIMS).
Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook). Strong communication and teaming skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
Ability and willingness to cover off-shifts. Regular shift assignment will be day shift. Ability to operate computers. Perform duties associated with incoming/outgoing department communications as well as processing inpatient, E.R., outpatient specimens, and reference lab requests. Assists tech staff, pathologists, and Director of Laboratory in various tasks.
Possess thorough knowledge of laboratory specimen collection and processing procedures, shipping, TATs, and specialty testing.
Performs any of following tasks to prepare specimens for laboratory testing.
Receives incoming specimens and requisition forms, inspects items for completeness, correctness of information, and condition of specimens.
Pours specimen fluid from primary tube into test tubes to create the required number of test samples.
Enters required patient and customer data, testing codes, and billing information into computer system, using computer keyboard or bar code reading equipment.
Prints bar code labels, using bar code printer, and attaches bar code labels to samples and requisition forms.
Centrifuges or performs other tasks to prepare specimens for testing.
Distributes all specimens to appropriate department for laboratory testing and assists with the locating of specimens for “add-on” testing.
Completes requisition forms and packages and forwards specimens to outside laboratories for tests unavailable on site.
Reviews all specimens, documents, and computer files and notifies designated staff of errors.
Credits and appropriately notifies hospital staff (i.e., nurse, ordering provider) of referred tests that could not be performed.
Answer telephone and provide information to customers.
Performs clerical duties including but not limited to faxing, filing, and result/report delivery via fax or mail.
Performance of a variety of analytical procedures of low to moderate complexity, using manual and automated methods, and through a variety of clinical laboratory methodologies. Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
High School Diploma required.
Minimum of three (3) to six (6) months experience required. For Medical laboratory Scientist (MLS) students - clinical rotation within an accredited MLS Program will be considered relevant experience.
Possess thorough knowledge of laboratory specimen collection and processing procedures, shipping, Turnaround times, and specialty testing.
