HOURLY: $14.62 JOB OBJECTIVE: Under general supervision from the Director of Sanitation/Public Works or his/her designee. Is responsible for general labor of the corresponding department. Will occasionally prepare simple reports and/or records on a daily basis. Position has little or no contact with the public. The position has no supervisory responsibilities. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Lead crews on assigned projects to see that projects are completed and performed in a professional, cost effective and timely manner. Instruct employees in proper work methods and standards; monitor crew work quality; ensure adherence to time schedules and safe work practices, provide performance feedback and into performance review. Operate all equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks such as backhoe, motor grader, tractors, street sweeper, hand tools, and mowing machines. Perform equipment repair and maintenance duties. Participate in stand-by during natural disasters or inclement weather. Maintain alleys and right of ways by being mowed and cleaned. Maintain tree trimmed that obstructs traffic view, signs or the proper maneuvering of vehicles. 10. Work with power tools such as, but not limited to drills, weed eaters, chainsaws etc. on a daily basis. Ensures that the assigned city vehicle is properly maintained and serviced. Reports damages and graffiti to city facilities. Work in a variety of weather conditions. Duties involve considerable bending, lifting, digging, carrying or walking with the chance for variety, and/or using force equal to lifting 20-50 pounds periodically (chain saw, trash cans, mis. Equipment). Perform other related duties as required. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Works outdoors all day with some unusual working hours or irregular hours which may also include some shift hours, due to weather conditions. Must be able to endure the hot sun most of the days and on occasion inclement weather. Wil have exposure to hazards which might result in serious injury, may work under extreme outdoor conditions. May assist the Parks & Recreation Department with the maintenance of City parks and Cemetery, which include trimming of trees and grass mowing and assist with the setup for special events. The employee is responsible for the safe and proper operation of traffic equipment and signals. Responsible for programming the following controllers: Kentron 8000 and Eagle 9000 NAZTEC. Employee is responsible for installation of streets signs throughout the city. Reports to locations where streets signs are needed and prepares materials to assemble street signs and stop signs. Reports when traffic lights are placed back in service. Will assist with stripping program, painting street curbs, crosswalks, slow bars, parking lots and center lanes.
