    THE ROLE OF A LABORER Under close supervision, keeps facility litter free and performs various loadchecker duties, and assists with other projects as needed. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, AND ARE NOT LIMITED TO: * Picks up blown litter on site and adjoining roads. * Brings full litter garbage bags to pick-up truck or tipping table. * Picks up metal or other recyclable materials from tipping table. * Relieves Spotter during lunch break and other times as needed. * Repairs drainage flumes. * Moves and/or constructs wind fences. * Keeps property clean and litter free. * Assists with covering garbage with tarps. * If working at compost site, removes contaminants from organics. Load Inspector/Checker (small percentage of time may be spent on the following duties): * Inspects and records daily incoming loads. * Keeps hazardous and otherwise prohibited waste out of facility. Generates documentation of efforts made to keep hazardous and otherwise prohibited waste out of facility. * Deals with customers in a professional manner. Responds to customers politely, courteously or firmly, as the situation dictates. * Answers customer questions. * Takes the appropriate action in accordance with amount and types of materials found, and customer attitude. Asks appropriate personnel for assistance when needed. * Works in a respectful manner with fellow employees. * Keeps accurate daily records. Never places any body parts in moving machinery or hazardous materials. Reports and follows up to ensure that safety items are resolved within the chemical room (includes: leaking hoses/pumps and storage of chemical). Follows proper lifting techniques and ergonomics. Performs safety checks on E-stops, pull-cords and eye wash stations. Reports anything not within specifications. Ensures that all guards are in place on equipment. Uses correct chemicals in proper applications. Organizes all chemicals, tools, etc. in designated locations in the chemical room and chemical warehouse. Never compromises on food safety and always complies with all applicable regulatory requirements. Reports quality concerns to direct Supervisor and Quality Assurance Department. Environmental: Disposes of empty containers appropriately when using liquid cleaning chemicals and granular type cleaners. Containers must be triple-rinsed. Disposes of waste appropriately, after approval from Safety, Health and Environmental team. Recycles materials when possible. Avoids allowing chemical residue to flow down to the floor drains. Contacts Dreyer's Environmental Personnel or Facilities team when there is a chemical spill to assist in the immediate cleanup of the spill. Understands all environmental, safety, and hazard (HAZCOM) aspects of the position and follows standard procedures related to these as outlined on the SHE sheet. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION Understand verbal and written instructions in English. Must follow safety rules and procedures including the wearing of safety shoes, hearing protection, and safety glasses where appropriate. Must observe Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and CDFA policies. Must be able to move around, to, and from one's designated work area on concrete and dairy brick surfaces which are often uneven, wet, and slippery. This includes the outside of the factory. Work every scheduled day and arrive at workstation at or before the scheduled start time. Communicate effectively with various support groups, supervisors, and team members. Detect and understand warning lights, buzzers, alarms, or instruments indicating hazardous conditions or circumstances which may cause equipment or product loss and physical harm. Must be able to work in a wet environment. Must be able to grip/use a low-pressure hot water hose/nozzle (80-100 lbs. of pressure) for 30 minutes to 1-hour periods. Assist lift up to 60 lbs. (material boxes, equipment, parts) from floor level to a height of 3 feet. Use various hand tools, open and close valves, and operate numerous switches and buttons. Must be able to climb and descend ladders. Working at heights and operating crane certified. Work in temperatures ranging from 35 degrees F. to 100 degrees F (depending on time of year). Must possess the ability to understand verbal and written safety and chemical handling instructions. Must be able to possess manual dexterity and strength to operate a high-pressure hose and to use tools in equipment disassembly and reassembly.
