The City of Dover Community Services Department is seeking three Laborers (or Truck Drivers depending on qualifications) to perform perform a variety of routine unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor duties involving the construction and maintenance of highways, sidewalks, and storm drainage projects. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position. $19.68 to $28.44 per hour. Position is open until filled. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Except as specifically noted, the following functions are considered essential to this position. The listed examples may not include all duties found in this class): 1. Perform required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling, raising old manhole covers and catch basins to road level for street reconstruction. 2. Perform general heavy laboring duties in assisting skilled and semi-skilled workers to remove trees, mix and pour cement, lay asphalt, patch streets, install and repair water and sewer lines, clear culverts, drains, roads and ditches, maintain park facilities, mow grass, clear weeds and brush, rake and pack leaves and debris, etc. 3. Provide assistance with operation of jet truck, camera truck and other light and medium-sized construction and power equipment 4. Provide assistance with snow removal operations, either operating small trucks or sidewalk plows, or may serve as a wingman on plow. Attach and remove snow plows, sanders, and associated equipment from vehicles. 5. Assists in other activities to mitigate conditions caused by extreme weather conditions, and natural and man-made disasters. 6. Operate and perform maintenance on hand tools and other machinery which may include, but not be limited to, mowers, brush cutters, chainsaws, weed whackers, etc. 7. Occasionally performs traffic control functions at job sites. 8. Operate trucks and motorized equipment as necessary. 9. Maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. 10. Available 24 hours per day to meet emergency situations as required. 11. Familiar with and executes safe work procedures associated with assigned work. 12. Performs other related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Basic knowledge of and the ability to use simple hand and power tools. Ability to perform simple and routine manual labor and perform one routine job for a prolonged period. Sufficient physical strength, conditioning and agility to perform strenuous manual labor for extended periods of time under adverse and varying weather and climatic conditions. This position is primarily responsible for performing a variety of tasks to support quarry operations, including cleanup, equipment maintenance, and assisting with material handling. To help ensure safe, efficient production by following safety procedures and supporting equipment operators and plant personnel as needed. WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH * Site Cleanup: Maintain a clean and safe work environment by shoveling, sweeping, and removing debris around plant and quarry areas. * Material Handling: Assist with moving, loading, and unloading raw materials and finished products as directed. * Equipment Support: Help operators with basic maintenance, lubrication, and inspection of quarry equipment. * Safety Compliance: Follow all company and MSHA safety rules, wear required PPE, and report unsafe conditions immediately. * Plant Assistance: Support plant operations by monitoring conveyors, chutes, and screens to ensure smooth material flow. * Manual Labor Tasks: Perform physical work such as lifting, digging, and using hand or power tools as needed. * Team Collaboration: Work closely with supervisors and equipment operators to complete daily production and maintenance tasks efficiently. These are part time, event related positions which involve working overnights and weekends. POSITION SUMMARY: Under direction, set-up and take down rooms, chair set-ups, arena for various events.
