Lake Central School Corporation company history timeline

1836

28, 1836, Porter County was created.

1847

The original Hilbrich family home, a log cabin built in 1847, was relocated to Scherwood Park near Joliet Street.

1908

The high school classes were established in 1908 inside the existing consolidated township school. "Dyer High," as the school is often called, had just 10 high school students including its first two graduates.

1912

The Central School Arts & Humanities Center was designed and built by noted New Orleans architects “Favrot & Livaudais” in 1912 and is located at the heart of the Charpentier Historic District.

1945

Scheidt's family also lived in Schererville, but she was a 1945 graduate of Bishop Noll.

1948

The school’s monthly newspaper, the “Central News” began in 1948.

1949

Hilbrich also took some time at the committee meeting to chat with his first cousin, Maureen Fagen Miller, class of 1949.

1958

In 1958 a gymnasium, nurse station, classrooms, teacher's lounge and offices were added.

1976

Later, it’s name was changed to “Central Gazette”. The facility operated as a school until 1976, when it began to house School Board Administrative Offices.

1993

In 1993, with the support of the entire Lake Charles community, the school was restored and became an “Arts & Humanities” center, after the passage of a quarter-cent sales tax which ran for six months.
