The MaintenanceWorker II is a valuable member of our Facilities team who under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty as a maintenanceworker. An employee in this position is responsible for aiding with and independently performing duties directed towards the general maintenance of the Lake County Health Department buildings and grounds with a focus on maintaining our HVACR equipment. Work involves the responsibility for the performance of specialized maintenance and repair operations in all buildings. General assignments are received from a supervisor, but maintenance personnel are expected to plan details of job and carry it to completion, without immediate supervision and in accordance with standard trade practice. Work is performed according to prescribed policies and procedures. Employees report to the Facilities Supervisor.
Scheduled Hours: 37.5 hours per work
* Basic understanding of HVAC controls and preventative maintenance for different types of systems
* Maintain heating, ventilating, and air conditioning in all buildings
* Perform a schedule for preventative maintenance and inspection of plant equipment.
* Ability to work from sketches, building plans, specifications and oral and written instructions.
* Keep an inventory of parts, plumbing supplies, controls of equipment, etc.
* Participates in snow/ice removal on campuses and outposts.
* Performs general maintenance tasks such as lawn maintenance, moving furniture and room set-up, including placement of equipment and furnishings and installations of shelves.
* Performs limited maintenance tasks in such areas as carpentry, painting and plastering.
* Keeps vehicle in a neat and clean appearance.
* Cleans up workspace after completion of project and ensure all tools and equipment have been returned to the proper location.
* Operates the TMA work order system to enter and complete work requests.
* Associate's degree or certificate of completion in HVAC and certification of refrigerant recovery
* 1+ years of practical experience in building maintenance: heating, plumbing, electrical, ventilating and pumping equipment.
* Possession of a valid Driver's License.

Part of the Forestry Section team, Landscape MaintenanceWorkers ensure the care and preservation of landscape beds, native plants, turfgrass, trees, and shrubs on City-owned property. MaintenanceWorker positions may be filled at the I or II level. Level II positions require the ability to operate Public Works equipment on a regular basis without supervision. Newly hired or current employees who are promoted, transferred, or voluntarily demoted to MaintenanceWorker positions will be paid at the MaintenanceWorker I level until successfully demonstrating equipment operation competency through proficiency testing or completion of the Public Works Department training program.
Required Qualifications
* High school diploma equivalent.
* Experience with landscaping installation and maintenance of public, private, commercial, or other landscapes similar to those maintained by the City.
* An equivalent combination of experience and training that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
* Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Qualifications:
Ability to operate equipment and machinery such as heavy-duty trucks, end loaders, bucket trucks, chippers, stump grinders, pavers and rollers, excavating equipment, post installers and removers, hand and power tools, chainsaws, mowers and requires the ability to maintain and repair complex equipment and machinery.
Knowledge of knots, climbing, tree identification, and chemicals used in performance of duties associated with maintaining the urban forest.
Ability to exert regular and sustained heavy physical effort with an emphasis on climbing and balancing which also involves stooping, crouching, and lifting, pushing and pulling moderately heavy objects and materials, 20 to 50 pounds, and may occasionally involve objects and materials up to 125 pounds.

Broad knowledge of and skill and experience in applying the methods, sequences, materials, procedures, trade practices and techniques used to maintain and repair the interior systems, structures, fixtures and appurtenances of housing units; skill and experience in the use of various power and hand tools and equipment necessary to complete the work; basic knowledge of and skill and experience in applying plumbing, carpentry, plastering, painting, custodial, and general building maintenance and repair methods, materials, techniques and trade practices; basic knowledge of and skill and experience in repairing common household appliances.
Knowledge of and ability to conform to common work practices, policies, procedures, etc. and work independently; ability to read, write, and communicate effectively; ability to comprehend, interpret, and follow written and oral instructions, directions, etc. and complete the work to desired specifications and quality standards; ability to work well with others and function as a member of a crew; knowledge of and ability to follow safety policies, procedures, practices and regulations; ability to organize and plan the sequence of tasks necessary to complete job assignments; ability to identify and evaluate repair and material needs, and solve work related problems; possession of a valid Ohio Driver's License, a good driving record, and insurability.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
The work of this position necessarily involves some exposure to a variety of environmental conditions including fumes, odors, dust, dirt, heat, etc. Exposure to unfavorable health and safety factors in working conditions may be present due to the type of mechanical equipment used and the variety of functions performed. The position requires normal attention to tasks being performed and moderate to heavy physical exertion necessitating full and unrestricted body movements and use of all limbs and major muscle groups. This position requires the incumbent for frequent and/or prolonged periods to stand, bend, stoop, climb, crouch, reach, push/pull (up to approximately 100 lbs.) balance, lift (up to 50 lbs.), manipulate and grasp. Normal
vision (particularly at close range) is required due to the fact that incumbent must exercise hand-eye coordination and operate motorized tools, equipment and vehicles.

Responsible for Loading all equipment needed for daily mowing.
Perform all tasks of operations which include mowing, line trimming, blowing, and debri removal.
Responsible for unloading, cleaning, and putting all mowing equipment away at the end of the day.
Report damaged equipment to supervisor immediately.
Read and adhere to Park District mowing standard manual.
Parks litter collection
Removal of graffiti
Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms
Pulling weeds
Preparation and painting of buildings and equipment
Gathering and setting up equipment for special events
Water Park maintenance
Some weekends as needed.
