Lake Trust Credit Union company history timeline

1944

Founded in 1944, Lake Trust Credit Union is Michigan’s largest Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and is committed to finding ways to serve the financially underserved.

The earliest predecessor of Lake Trust Credit Union was Detroit Edison Credit Union, which was chartered in 1944.

2004

NuUnion had been a 2004 merger of State Employees Credit Union and Ottawa County School Employees Credit Union.

2007

In November 2007, Detroit Edison completed the purchase and assumption of Huron River Area Credit Union.

2010

On April 1, 2010, Detroit Edison merged with NuUnion Credit Union to establish Lake Trust Credit Union.

2013

The organization had piloted MasterPass since February 2013 in association with PSCU.

On March 20, 2013, Lake Trust Credit Union announced that they would be building a new $30 million headquarters in Brighton, Michigan.

2015

In September 2015, the headquarters was officially moved to Brighton.

2019

The credit union has 20 branches currently, with more being planned for grand openings in 2019.
