The Adolescent Female Crisis Stabilization Unit is a 22 bed unit for the multi-disciplinary assessment, evaluation, crisis intervention, and stabilization of adolescent female patients. Discharge planning emphasizes movement to day hospital or outpatient care as soon as the crisis has been stabilized. The Female Adolescent Crisis Stabilization Unit is located on Sheppard Pratt's main campus in Towson (Baltimore County). As a Social Worker or Counselor you will: Provide a wide range of social work/counseling services to an assigned caseload of patients in support of established treatment plan goals and discharge plans. Complete a comprehensive psychosocial assessment on each patient assigned at time of admission. Meet individually with patients on caseload as well as with families and/or significant others to monitor and evaluate progress. Conduct daily group psychotherapy session for assigned patients; leads a wide array of psycho-therapeutic groups in conjunction with other members of the treatment team. Opportunity time frame: Exact dates are flexible based on school requirements. We require a commitment of 3 days per week for an internship, typically 9am-3pm. Practicum students typically complete two 5 hours days per week. Eligibility requirements: Advanced year Master's of Social Work students or Master's of Mental Health Counseling students. This internship offers hands-on experience working with adults with severe mental illness who are receiving psychiatric stabilization services at our Residential Crisis program. Interns will work directly with individuals served, supporting case managers and direct-care staff in providing stabilization services and learning how to address client needs in a crisis setting. Training and experience will include case management, treatment planning, crisis intervention, discharge planning, and facilitating therapeutic groups alongside staff. This opportunity provides a comprehensive view of community mental health care, focusing on building practical skills while making a direct impact in the lives of those in recovery. Opportunity time frame: The time frame for fall depends on how quickly the intern completes their 120 hours. The hours vary from 16-24 hours a week. Start date is flexible depending on semester. Eligibility requirements: Current undergraduate at Towson University; Majoring in psychology or a similar human services pathway; willingness to learn and engage. Learning model: Training packets, handouts, one-on-one meetings with a supervisor, training with case managers and rehab specialists.
