Lakeview Medical Ctr history

1929 – John H. Harrison of the Commercial News gave funds for the building of a new wing on the southeast corner of Lakeview Hospital.

The program was formally certified by the State in 1937, when certificates were first awarded.

Lakeview Center's origins date back to May 11, 1954 when Pensacola civic leaders opened a small basement clinic chartered to "provide psychological and psychiatric services for children with personality, emotional or social difficulties."

1958 – St Elizabeth broke ground for a six-story patient tower.

1959 – A fund drive was conducted to raise money to rebuild and modernize both St Elizabeth and Lake View Hospitals.

The decision to build Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Utah, emerged from overcrowding challenges faced by South Davis Community Hospital, built in 1961.

With the passage of the 1963 Community Mental Health Act, federal funding became available for the construction and staffing of mental health centers in cities across the United States.

Even though the hospital increased its capacity by 1964, it was not large enough to meet the population boom that had made Davis County the fastest-growing county in Utah.

Using federal grants, local matching funds and land donated by Baptist Hospital, the three-building facility was completed in July 1968.

1973 – St Elizabeth was named the area-wide trauma center for the region.

20, 1974, a four –handled shovel was thrust into the grassy orchards of the Bountiful slope, marking the beginning of construction for the $8 million, 150,000-sq-ft hospital.

1981 – The Oncology Center for Danville was opened southwest of the Lakeview Memorial Hospital.

1982 – St Elizabeth opened the new west wing, which included a new emergency department, surgery center, obstetrics office and laboratory.

The Lakeview Center affiliate began in 1986 and has grown to be one of the largest employers of people with disabilities under the AbilityOne© Program.

The College was granted approval to establish a baccalaureate nursing program by the State of Illinois, Department of Registration and Education in September 1987.

1988 – St Elizabeth and Lakeview Memorial merged their operations to create United Samaritans Medical Center, creating a solid platform for growth.

1992 – The United Samaritans Foundation started its donor recognition program, an association giving program and the Women Aware and HALO community outreach programs.

Responding to the increase in outpatient service, a major expansion was completed in 1994 to focus on the spaces for surgery, recovery, anesthesia, radiology, emergency services and more.

Replacing Doctor Eaddy as Lakeview Center's president and chief executive officer was Gary Bembry, a certified public accountant who joined Lakeview as its chief financial officer in 1997.

1999 – Provena United Samaritans and Provena Covenant Health in Urbana, Illinois, joined together to create the Provena Regional EMS system, coordinating the emergency response activities of 47 agencies in eight counties.

Students began to attend classes on the EIU campus in fall 2001.

2011 – In November, through the merger of Provena Health and Resurrection Health Care, Presence Health was created.

The 2012 opening of the three-story 48,600 square-foot Melba B. Meyer Children's Services Center, which allows Lakeview Center to offer all of its outpatient services for children in a single location.

The Charleston facility completed an expansion in 2014 creating more space for classrooms, a computer lab, and faculty offices.

In January 2016 Gulf Coast Enterprises (GCE) and Vocational Services (SVS) transitioned into Global Connections to Employment, Inc. (GCE) functioning as an affiliate of Lakeview Center rather than a division.

2017 – In August, OSF HealthCare, under the sponsorship of the Sisters of the Third Order of St Francis, signed a letter of intent to take ownership of Presence United Samaritans Medical Center.

2018 – In February, the Sisters of the Third Order of St Francis renamed Presence United Samaritans Medical Center to OSF HealthCare Sacred Heart Medical Center to honor the legacy of the original founding Sisters of St Elizabeth Hospital.

In February of 2019 Lakeview Center expanded behavioral health services by entering into an affiliation agreement with Chautauqua Healthcare Services (CHCS) in Defuniak Springs.

In January 2020, Lakeview Behavioral Health became the first Florida member to join the Hazelden Betty Ford Patient Care Network (PCN) to expand addiction treatment services in Northwest Florida.

On October 1, 2021, Lakeview Center officially separated from its parent organization Baptist Health Care following a 25-year relationship as one organization.
