Lamination Technician

Position Overview
Summary
The purpose of this position is to ensure that the Lamination process remains safely running and that the product remains free of quality defects. This position reports to the Lamination Lead.
Duties (Essential & Non-Essential)
Making machine/process adjustments on line and on computer. Visual inspections of products for defects and grading. Following specific instructions on each order. Maintaining operation of packaging equipment. Achieving set quality standards.
Overall visual control of the assigned section of the line. Operate baler in recycling of raw materials. Monitoring parameters such as speed, lacquer levels, cure times and waste. Performing quality checks on finished product by assembling. Change the emboss roller when directed.
Feed new rolls of material such as the core, backing material and the wear layer. Assist the Department Lead in the daily production of quality Resilient flooring in the safest, most efficient and productive manner, by utilizing established methods and procedures. Lead by example as a positive, team-oriented employee. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Have fun. Must have the ability to perform basic reading, writing, and math. Must be able to pass a color blindness and vision test. Must be familiar with current computer systems and software. Must be able to operate a lift truck once trained.
A high-school diploma or equivalent. Passion and track record of achieving results Proven ability to work collaboratively with all levels of associates. Demonstrated ability to make timely decisions. Experience with continuous manufacturing processes.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Laminate Glass Tech works in a clean room environment where attention to detail is a must to perform the tasks correctly. The position requires assembly of glass along with the interlayer to create the final laminate glass product. Will set-up and operate a variety of laminating bagging systems to produce high quality laminate glass. Must utilize a multitude of laminate interlayer trim and edging tools to create a quality product with a perfect finish. Ability to carefully quality check their own work and ensure everything that goes to the customer is perfect.

SCOPE OF ROLE

  • Assemble and produce top quality laminate glass.
  • Must adhere to strict process guidelines and follow all certification and testing procedures.
  • Ensure clean glass and interlayer properly prepared and applied through laminate process.
  • Utilize proper laminate production tools for proper assembly and production of laminate glass.
  • Must operate and program the laminating equipment.
  • This will be a high production and labor-intensive process where communication is needed with the laminate glass supervisor to ensure on time delivery.
  • Expected to be instrumental and responsive to changes in the production schedule as required. May help in other areas as required
  • Will be OSHA 10 certified.
  • Will use the latest technology of laminate interlayers and specialty tools.
  • The entire work area must always be kept extremely clean and free of dust. Specialty white gloves and handling tools are required in this operation to ensure the proper adhesion and evacuation process is perfect every time.
  • Must utilize items such as tools for trimming interlayer and proper clamping for locating glass panels evenly around the perimeter of the glass.
  • Must have thorough training and understanding of laminate bagging system and properly loading table.
  • Will run proper recipes for a multitude of glass thickness and interlayer types and thickness for proper adhesion through laminate machine process.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of the job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
  • The employee exerts up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
  • Vision requirements include clarity of vision at 20 inches or less; clarity of vision at 20 feet or more; ability to identify and distinguish colors; the ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point; the ability to judge distances and spatial relationships; and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.
  • Work is performed in shop environment with frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions and vibration. There is occasional exposure to humid and extreme non-weather related cold or hot conditions. There is frequent exposure to constant very loud sounds sufficient to cause distraction.

Lamination Technician Overview

  • Performs elementary and routine mix and Client-up of composite materials, fiberglass, resins, and catalysts onto mold surface using various hand tools.
  • Utilization of open mold and vacuum infusion processes.
  • Works with various resins, gel-coats, fiberglass materials, foam, and structural adhesives.
  • Installs wood and other components into fiberglass hulls, decks, and small part molds.
  • Operates a variety of power tools including but not limited to saws, drills, grinders, and overhead hoists. Locates parts by hand or by utilizing detailed blueprints, work instructions, tools, and/or fixtures. Sanding of fiberglass hulls, decks, and small part molds.


Requirements

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements include respirators, gloves, chemical resistance aprons, and chemical resistant suits.
  • Ability to read a tape measure.
  • Have the ability and desire to work in a hot and humid work environment especially in the summer. Ability to work a 10+ hour shift standing, bending, reaching. As well as, climbing on and through stairs, molds, and staging throughout the duration of your shift.
  • Moderate lifting ability up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a non-climate controlled environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, noisy environment
  • Have the flexibility to work overtime both planned and unplanned to meet company goals.
  • Must follow all safety standards and procedures; including chemical handling standards and Personal Protective Equipment
  • Must adhere to all quality standards and adhere to new standards as processes evolve
  • Must demonstrate record of dependability and reliability with prior work or professional experience

Shift:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
