Established in 1933, Lancaster Bible College | Capital Seminary & Graduate School is a private non-denominational Bible college with a thriving student population consisting of undergraduate, seminary and graduate learners.
The college years are among the most formative, and since 1933, Lancaster Bible College has helped students discover where God is calling them in a nurturing and safe environment where they can grow academically, spiritually and personally.
Founded in 1933 by Henry J. Heydt, the original name of the school was Lancaster School of the Bible.
In 1938, three local Bible institutes merged to form the Washington Bible Institute.
When Doctor Gilbert A. Peterson began his duties as president in 1979, he focused on debt reduction.
In 2013, the Maryland Higher Education Commission approved Lancaster Bible College’s acquisition of the academic programs of Washington Bible College and Capital Bible Seminary.
LBC was granted an exception to Title IX in 2016 which allows it to legally discriminate against LGBT students for religious reasons.
In 2018, Lancaster Bible College | Capital Seminary & Graduate School took second and third place in 2018 college rankings published by The Wall Street Journal, edging out two Ivy League institutions for the top spots.
