Dan and Jerry's Greenhouses hires seasonal workers from late January-late June. We collect applications year around and will contact you when we have an opening. Plant, cultivate, and maintain crops and plants, to pick, ship and sell to our customers. General maintenance of facilities, grounds, and equipment is also required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (comprehensive, but not limited to): Greenhouse Production: • Responsible for all aspects of plant growing including seeding, pruning, transplanting, spacing, watering, hanging baskets. • Set, pull, sort and store plants according to variety, growing needs and shipments. • Perform irrigation activities, including setting up and moving irrigation pipes and equipment and watering plants both by hand and automated irrigation systems. • Move containerized plants using rolling carts. • Unload carts/bins/trucks/wagons at designated market and sort product for quality issues and repackage for sales. Field Production: • Perform field maintenance activities including pulling weeds, thinning crops, and spraying plants with herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides. • Remove trash, rocks, and debris from the planting/ harvest area. • At harvest, will be instructed to select vegetables based on specifications set by the supervisor. • Operate tractors, sprayers, cultivators, planters, mowers, plows, disks, and other farm equipment. Facility Grounds and Equipment Maintenance: • Construction, uncover and/or recover greenhouses, with or without the use of power tools. • Maintain facilities grounds including weeding, mowing and snow removal as necessary. • Assist with the maintenance and repair of equipment. • Be able to operate equipment with or without direction, in a manner that protects the operator, visitors, other employees, plants, crops, trees, facilities and equipment. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Prior experience working on a nursery handling both manual and machine tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities. • Level 1: minimum of 3 months prior experience • Level 2: 4+ years of experience or exemplary performance • Level 3: 7+ years of experience or exemplary performance, consider an expert and assisting in training new hires • Level 4 (Team Leader): 10+ years of experience or exemplary performance, assisting supervisor/manager with supervising greenhouse operations. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: • None KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES: The qualifications listed here are guidelines. If there are heavier items, they will require a team lift. • Workers should be able to work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. • Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking. • Allergies may affect worker's ability to perform the job. • Workers will be required to bend and stoop to pick crops, cut the vines using a knife and carry crops to bins, carts, wagons and trucks. • Workers are exposed to wet weather early in the morning through the heat of the day. Extreme temperatures may range from -10 to 100+ F. Workers may be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop operations. • Workers should be physically able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations. The General Laborer is responsible for assisting all areas of the plant. Will fill in when shorthanded, cleanup projects, be responsible for the picking up of corn piles, and work alongside all department to assist with other miscellaneous jobs as assigned. Shift Schedule: Must fill in for any shift when coverage is needed or directed by the supervisor. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Perform Operator duties during times of absence of an operator, or any other times as directed. Perform Material Handler duties during times of absence of a Material Handler, or any other times as directed. Will be assigned the management of corn piles throughout the year. Assist the maintenance technicians with special projects. Oversee and ensure a clean and safe working environment throughout the facility. Perform small general duties and participate in projects throughout the facility as directed. Communicates regularly with all necessary personnel to ensure efficient plan operation. Assist all other employees and departments as required for efficient plant operation. Provides a “Customer Service” attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work, production, and achieving quality standards. Abides by all safety, health, environmental and food/feed safety policies and procedures. Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe workstation/environment at all times. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Education and Experience: Education: High School or Equivalent A Post Secondary education and or technical trade certificate is preferred. In-depth knowledge of the ethanol production process and technology is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of plant equipment and safety procedures. Possess competent knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment used in the facility, to maintain rotating and stationary machinery and equipment: industrial size equipment such as lifts and skid steers; variety of hand tools, power tools, testing instruments (laser alignment), welders (acetylene and electric), drills, pipe threaders; limited amount of light electrical work. Adapts to changes in the work environment; manages competing demands; able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events. Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with other departments, working to maintain constructive working relationships under all circumstances. Reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Communicate effectively with co-workers and management. Proficiency in working with various software programs. Maintains good attendance habits. Proficient in mathematics. Abide by all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description. Abide by company's safety, quality, environmental and HR policies at all times. Physical Demands and Work Environment: Frequently required to walk, stand, sit. Frequently required to climb to levels of 125 feet or more, confined and harnessed. Use of stairs and ladders are required. Occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds or more. Operate in an office and production environment. Production environment could include frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme heat or cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
