Working within Plant Pathology (Johnston, IA) and partnering closely with wet‑lab scientists and bioinformatics experts, you will transform research assays into robust, documented pipelines that are reproducible at scale on HPC or cloud environments. Microbial experience-especially fungi/oomycetes-is preferred, but strong hands‑on bioinformatics and data processing skills are the primary requirement.
What You'll Do:
Adapt, build, and benchmark HTS diagnostic workflows (targeted and shotgun approaches).
Implement comparative genomics modules: whole‑genome alignment, pangenome analysis, orthology clustering, variant discovery.
Design and evaluate pathogen markers: multi‑sequence alignments, specificity screens, and panel curation.
Create automated, stakeholder‑friendly reports/dashboards.
Partner with wet‑lab scientists to align pipeline inputs/outputs with experimental design and validations

What Skills You Need:

Students will automate and improve admin processes (e.g., data quality checks, process automation).
Students will pilot machine learning use cases to improve efficiency.

Students may work with geographic information systems (GIS) to develop new data products and conduct assessments
Requirements:
Must have successfully completed two full years of undergraduate-level computer science or Data Science curriculum including associated laboratory courses.

Students will work on a research project supporting our sustainability goals with our environmental science teams.

Corteva AgriscienceTM is seeking students for full-time internships within our research and development organization in Indianapolis, Indiana. We offer students the opportunity to work closely with a senior scientist in an industrial setting, and the students will have extensive opportunities to network across the company. It is desirable that students have past practical experience in a research environment generating data and have relevant computer skills. Students are encouraged to be creative and take initiative, where appropriate, while working with their supervisor. Students are expected to always operate in a safe and efficient manner. Essential to this internship are interpersonal, organizational, communication, teamwork, and time management skills.
What You'll Do:
Participate in all phases of research including planning, preparation, calibration, application, evaluation, and analysis with supervisor.
Work in a safe manner and embody Corteva's safety culture.
Demonstrate independent and creative thinking by making novel observations, interpreting data, and drawing sound scientific conclusions.
Present project reviews throughout the summer and a final poster before colleagues and peers.
What Skills You Need:
Internships are available to students that are currently pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate degree in a relevant discipline. Students must have completed at least two years of undergraduate work before the start of the internship.
GPA of 3.0 or better
Must be able to relocate to Indianapolis, IN for the duration of the internship.
Must be able to work full-time (40 hours per week) for six continuous months.

We have Research & Development Intern openings available for Summer 2026 at our WinField United Innovation Center in River Falls, WI.
Internship Duration: 11 weeks (May - August 2026)
Interns are paid $25.00/hour. Relocation assistance may be provided to eligible candidates for the duration of the summer internship.
Research & Development Field Intern
The R&D Field Intern will be responsible for implementing research in a field setting based on protocols received from research managers. Responsibilities will include tasks such as field prep, planting of crops, laying out trials, spraying treatments, and some data collection (tissue sampling, visual ratings, stand counts). Trials conducted will cover multiple product lines such as seed treatment, adjuvants, herbicides, fungicides, plant nutrition, biologicals, and application technology. They will work with a team consisting of 2-3 fellow interns as well as full-time staff. The intern will have the opportunity to work closely with research scientists and learn about various product areas as well as how and why we conduct research differently based on the product area being tested.
Research & Development Lab Intern
The R&D Lab Intern will primarily support the biological, phenotyping, and controlled environments labs, with possible involvement in chemistry, seed treatment, and wind tunnel labs as needed. The Controlled Environments lab, part of the Product Development group at the River Falls Innovation Center, features a greenhouse, growth chambers, and facilities for plant-based research on WinField United's experimental and current products such as adjuvants, herbicides, plant nutrition, seed treatments, and plant growth regulators for diverse cropping systems. The R&D Lab Intern will help conduct experiments for the Product Development group, working with the greenhouse, growth chambers, and related equipment. Responsibilities include preparing plant material, carrying out research procedures, and collecting data to advance both new and existing WinField United products.
Experience-Education (Required)
Sophomore (preferred) or junior undergraduate pursuing a bachelor's degree in agronomy, crop & soil science, agriculture business, ag education, ag system management, chemistry, horticulture, plant science, plant pathology, or other related field of study
Possess a valid driver's license; have and maintain a satisfactory driving record
Required GPA of 3.0 or higher
