Line trims around signs, trees, valve boxes and edges along walks, curbs, and beds
Controls weeds manually and with the application of mulch and chemical herbicides to bed areas. Applies fertilizer to shrubs and trees. Hand waters new plants and trees.
Inspects lawns and shrub beds prior to mowing or pruning for obstacles such as debris, irrigation heads, rocks, limbs, valve boxes, etc.

Spanning areas in northern Georgia and southeastern Tennessee, the park protects historic battlefields, monuments, and landscapes while interpreting the military strategies, human experiences, and lasting impacts of the war on the nation.

Position Overview: This position supports ongoing landscape restoration efforts at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, led by the park's biologist in collaboration with the park historian. The intern will assist with projects aimed at restoring key areas of the battlefield to more closely reflect their Civil War-era appearance. Current projects include restoring Battleline Road from a closed-canopy forest to an open cedar glade, as well as selectively reducing forest encroachment at the Jay's Mill area to reestablish its historic character as open farmland. Future work will include landscape restoration at Cravens House, focusing on recreating a historically accurate, "lived-in" setting through research-driven plant selection such as flowers and fruit trees.
Throughout the position, the intern will gain hands-on experience in historic landscape restoration, learning both the historical context of these sites and the systematic, science-based approaches used to remove, restore, and maintain vegetation under the guidance of the park's biologist.
This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.
Schedule: 8am-4:30pm, M-F
Position Benefits
Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $720/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a federal hiring authority upon completion of their term of service and 640 hours of service. Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Groundskeeper are as follows:
* Keep property, management office, landscaping clean by inspecting property each morning and picking up any trash littering the grounds.
* Keep mail rooms clean--pick up trash, sweep floors, remove dated notices from bulletin boards, etc.
* Replace lightbulbs in common areas and breezeways as needed.
* Replace all first-floor window screens upon request.
* Assist with apartment make-readies as requested--trash vacant units, caulk, check appliances and smoke detector, replace parts, etc.
* Clean air conditioning vents and replace filter in all vacant apartments.
* Install, move and hook up appliances.
* Replace air filters as scheduled for all occupied apartments.
* Clean pool area--hose down area, pick up trash, straighten chairs, etc.
* Perform light painting duties as directed.
* Clean vacant apartments between residents.
* Assist the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Technician as requested.
Qualifications
The qualifications for a Groundskeeper are as follows:
* High school diploma or equivalent is required.
* Some experience in groundskeeping, caretaking or janitorial.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Ability to multitask, stay organized and meet deadlines.
* Excellent customer service skills.
* Must be able to assist with after-hours maintenance emergencies as needed.
* Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. and climb stairs on a regular basis.
* This role MAY require a valid driver's license

Ground Responsibilities
