Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Completion of a horticulture course or grounds keeping program is desirable.
Experience: Previous mechanical experience and skills. Previous experience in servicing and maintain equipment such as mowers, sweepers, pick-up, trailers, etc. Experience driving a manual transmission vehicle and pulling a trailer. Previous experience operating wide variety of equipment used in groundskeeping.
Preferred: Experience with computerized work request and PM system.
License(s)/Certification(s): Valid driver's license. Ornamental and turf pest control pesticide applicator's certificate (30T) or obtained within 12 months of hire.
Preferred: Certificate on building education or 5 years' experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must have knowledge and know how to care for a wide variety of plant material. Must have knowledge of spraying and fertilizer calibration. Must have knowledge of operation and maintenance of all equipment used in groundskeeping. Previous experience and knowledge working with salts, sand and chemicals used to treat and use in snow removal. Basic carpentry skills such as painting, patching walls, small carpentry repairs, etc.
Preferred: Previous experience with residential and commercial carpentry.

The Landscape Technician will maintain the grounds and landscapes around all YMCA buildings and facilities throughout the year.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Serves as a role model to members, and Y staff and, at all times lives the mission, vision and values of the YMCA movement.
Work to insure the safety of every individual on YMCA properties and grounds.
Perform mowing, weed eating/blowing, raking leaves, trim trees and bushes and other landscape duties to maintain an appealing and safe atmosphere for members.
Completes snow removal tasks such as plowing parking lots, shoveling sidewalks, steps and doorways as needed during winter months.
Operate and maintain necessary lawn care and snow removal equipment such as mowers, tractors, chain saws, snow blowers, etc., in a safe and efficient manner. Store equipment efficiently and safely.
Be aware and make necessary changes to hazards found on camp grounds.
Make minor repairs to buildings and facilities as needed.
Sweep, scrub, wax floors, wash windows and screens, put up and take down screens and storm windows-repair same as needed.
Pick up and remove trash and debris from the property and dispose of it appropriately on a daily basis.
Participate in and solicit others to participate in necessary YMCA financial development efforts, specifically the Annual Campaign.
Maintain certifications listed under Certificates and Other Requirements.
Adherence to all policies and procedures of YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley.
Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations including knowledge of emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment.
