General Schedule:
Regular shifts are Monday to Friday 6am-3pm.
Performs a variety of landscaping duties (e.g. sod laying, mowing, trimming shrubs, planting, watering, fertilizing) to sustain the campus grounds of the University of Central Oklahoma.
Job Duties:
Maintains campus lawns by mowing, raking, edging, trimming, fertilizing, and using weed control methods.
Prepares flower beds for growing annuals and bulbs and other areas for seed and sod.
Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
Maintains campus shrubs by watering, spraying, weeding, and cleaning shrub plantings.
Maintains driveways and walkways by spreading salt to remove ice buildup and shoveling snow.
Maintains campus grounds by removing litter, sweeping, and cleaning around trash dumpsters and containers, and collecting rubbish left on campus.
Provides sign and fence installation.
Assists with artificial turf maintenance in sports complex.
Performs duties associated with special events.
Observes, communicates, complies with, and enforces Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) provisions.
Uses various hand tools and gas-powered tools and ensures tools are maintained properly.
Operates water tanker with pumps, and sprayers as needed.
Operates roto tillers, lawn sweepers, sprayers, aerators, and tractors as needed.
May operate tractors and bobcats to remove snow and ice from drives and walkways.
May assist the Irrigation Technician.
May make minor repairs on equipment.
Performs other related duties as necessary to support the UCO mission.
This position is deemed mission essential. Incumbent must be available to help with or fully abate a facilities emergency. In case of inclement weather or other emergency situations, the incumbent is expected to report to work as directed, provided the process of getting to work location does not put the incumbent into a dangerous situation. Further, a pre-arranged shift change may be implemented for predictable emergencies like inclement weather.
Qualifications/Experience Required:
General education or vocational training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and be able to operate a typical motor vehicle.
Must pass pre-employment screening.
Previous experience in landscape maintenance, not necessary.

Ensures supplies are available to complete necessary tasks. Under the direction of the Construction Maintenance Administrator, places purchase orders for supplies needed. Makes arrangements for delivery or to pick up from local vendors.
Responsible for maintaining commercial herbicide and pesticide licenses. Completes continuing education of herbicide and pesticide application prior to renewal of licenses.
Responsible for the correct use of chemical applications to deter pest populations, to control weeds, and fertilize grounds. Notifies supervisor of any concerns prior to applying chemical(s) to building and grounds.
Oversees contract workers performance of routine mowing and edging of hospital grounds. Notifies supervisor if issues arise during these periods. Responsible for mowing and edging the intricate areas of the hospital.
Responsible for ensuring trees, bushes, shrubs, and other hospital grounds are kept trimmed and neat. Uses independent judgement to determine the amount to trim while avoiding damage to the hospital's landscape. Maintains proper moisture levels throughout the hospital grounds to ensure growth of lawn, plants, shrubs, bushes, and trees.
Performs brief safety inspections of all equipment and/or tools prior to use. Maintains general knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and minor repair of all equipment and/or tools. Maintains records of general routine maintenance of equipment and/or tools. Notifies supervisor of any repairs or replacement of equipment and/or tools.
Attends to hospital grounds, parking lots, and sidewalks ensuring areas are neat. Using proper equipment and/or machinery, removes all visible litter and debris. Dispose of litter and debris using the proper trash container or removal procedure.
Responsible for maintaining a pool operator license (PBP license). As directed by supervisor, completes pool checks to ensure water quality and balance, the recirculation of system filters is working correctly, and maintains records of pool checks.
As assigned by the supervisor, will assist in completion of other maintenance tasks or responsibilities for the hospital's building and grounds.
Demonstrate safety awareness while performing assigned duties by using equipment properly, wearing safety belts, safety glasses, safety vests, etc. Follows policy guidelines when lifting and using proper body mechanics. Complies with department policy for push, pull, or lifting up to 50 pounds and obtains assistance for weights over 50 pounds.
Attends training as assigned by supervisor. Completed all required hospital and departmental in-services.

J.D. McCarty Center is a pediatric rehabilitation hospital for children with disabilities birth to 21 years of age. We are a unique 36 bed hospital. Attends to hospital grounds, parking lots, and sidewalks ensuring areas are neat. Using proper equipment and/or machinery, removes all visible litter and debris. Dispose of litter and debris using the proper trash container or removal procedure.
Responsible for maintaining a pool operator license (PBP license). As directed by supervisor, completes pool checks to ensure water quality and balance, the recirculation of system filters is working correctly, and maintains records of pool checks.
As assigned by the supervisor, will assist in completion of other maintenance tasks or responsibilities for the hospital's building and grounds.
Demonstrate safety awareness while performing assigned duties by using equipment properly, wearing safety belts, safety glasses, safety vests, etc. Follows policy guidelines when lifting and using proper body mechanics. Complies with department policy for push, pull, or lifting up to 50 pounds and obtains assistance for weights over 50 pounds.
Attends training as assigned by supervisor. Completed all required hospital and departmental in-services.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of one year of experience in gardening, lawn care or greenhouse work.
Preferred:
Agricultural License
Pesticide Applicators License

J.D. McCarty Center is a pediatric rehabilitation hospital for children with disabilities birth to 21 years of age. We are a unique 36 bed hospital. Patient are admitted for a 30-day evaluation during which they are assigned a treatment team consisting of nursing unit, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, ABA therapy, nutritional services, social services, psychological services, behavioral analysis, and recreational therapy. We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Property Groundskeeper to join our team. As a Groundskeeper, you will be responsible for the overall maintenance and appearance of our property grounds. You will perform landscaping and maintenance tasks using power equipment and hand tools to maintain the property's grounds. This position will report to the Maintenance Supervisor. Your primary goal will be to ensure that the outdoor areas are well-maintained, safe, and visually appealing at all times.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Mows lawns, trims weeds, maintain flower bed and rakes leaves as assigned.
Cleans out gutters and condensers.
Reports lease violations, assist with resident retention and maintaining curb appeal.
Performs general cleaning and trash out units.
Picks up and removes trash prior to mowing a designated area.
Remove pet waste and maintain pet waste stations.
Empties trash and recycling containers.
Trims bushes, shrubs, and hedges. Cuts and removes trees as needed.

Required Skills/Abilities:
