This position involves performing basic landscaping tasks under supervision, supporting the safe operation of commercial-grade landscaping equipment, and assisting with the maintenance of plant materials and other landscape features.
**Duties and Responsibilities:**
+ Cut turf using various-sized power mowers, trimming, and edging using a gas-powered edger/trimmer, and operating a gas-powered blower
+ Prune shrubs and low trees as needed to improve the shape or growth habit, or to remove damaged branches
+ Plant and maintain flower beds
+ Operate the edger and line trimmer along sidewalks, flower beds, trees, buildings, fences, and other objects
+ Pick up trash and blow leaves and other organic debris onto the turf before mowing.
+ Mulch the leaves and organic matter when mowing
+ Perform weeding by hand or using a garden hoe or hula hoe
+ Perform basic, preventative maintenance to extend the life of equipment
+ Properly remove trash, dead plants, and suckers from the landscape
+ Maintain a polite, friendly, responsive demeanor with guests and customers
+ Report unsafe conditions to the Crew Leader as appropriate
**Education and Experience:**
+ At least 18 years old,

+ Ability to safely work with equipment like power saws and cutters
+ Certified on level 1 equipment (backpack blower, stick edger, string trimmer, walk-behind mower)
+ Familiar with basic horticultural maintenance operations/practices

Job Description
Under general supervision, this position performs routine maintenance and landscaping renovation tasks to care for natural and synthetic athletic fields, squares, parks, green infrastructure, playgrounds, stadiums, thoroughfares, medians, natural areas and/or other landscaped areas. Special Requirements

Essential Duties
The 3417 Gardener:
Prepares soil by rototilling, grading, spading, and fertilizing to promote plant growth and to prevent drainage problems.
Maintains plants by planting, transplanting, cultivating, irrigation and pruning to promote plant growth and to prevent plant deterioration.
Performs irrigation system inspections to make necessary adjustments and repairs when appropriate; Implements irrigation system best practices to comply with water conservation mandates.
Performs regular inspections on plants and/or lawn areas to identify, manage control and/or mitigate the pests and diseases by performing techniques such as Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
Maintains lawn areas by raking, edging, mowing, watering, weeding, aerating, fertilizing, over seeding and/or other landscaping function(s) to promote lawn health and erosion control.
Maintains grounds of natural and synthetic athletic fields, squares, parks, playgrounds, stadiums, thoroughfares and/or other landscape areas by clearing brush and debris, sweeping and raking areas, cleaning up litter, clearing drains, and preventing hazardous conditions.
Operates power and manual equipment and/or tools such as mowers, water equipment, gopher traps, and other types of gardening equipment and/or tools to assist in maintaining landscape areas.
Performs routine maintenance on gardening equipment and/or tools to ensure they are maintained and in good working condition.
Performs general maintenance duties on grounds and facilities such as natural and synthetic athletic fields, sandboxes in parks, public easements, restroom facilities, irrigation systems and safe premises.
May be assigned to work with and/or direct the work of park volunteers.
May interact with the public, staff, community groups, and/or other City departments.
Positions at Airport may also be required to assist with installation of interior landscapes designs including plant beds, planters and other decorative elements; and assist with identifying and selecting plant species suited for indoor environments.
Qualifications
Three (3) years of verified experience in the care, construction, or maintenance of landscaped areas by planting, weeding, fertilizing, irrigating, pruning, and controlling pests in the following areas: sports and athletic natural turf fields, golf courses, parks, ornamental gardens, arboreta, greenhouses, nurseries, botanical gardens and/or public landscaped areas; OR
Possession of a Certificate of Achievement from an accredited college or university in horticulture, landscaping, gardening, nursery and garden center operation, commercial cut flower and greenhouse production or related field and two (2) years of verifiable experience in the care, construction or maintenance of landscaped areas by planting, weeding, fertilizing, irrigating, pruning, and controlling pests in the following areas: sports and athletic natural turf fields, golf courses, parks, ornamental gardens, arboreta, greenhouses, nurseries, botanical gardens and/or public landscaped areas; OR
Possession of an Associate of Arts or Science degree from an accredited college or university in horticulture, landscaping, gardening, nursery and garden center operation, commercial cut flower and greenhouse production or related field and eighteen (18) months of verifiable experience in the care, construction or maintenance of landscaped areas by planting, weeding, fertilizing, irrigating, pruning, and controlling pests in the following areas: sports and athletic natural turf fields, golf courses, parks, ornamental gardens, arboreta, greenhouses, nurseries, botanical gardens and/or public landscaped areas; OR
Completion of 3,000 hours of the City and County of San Francisco's gardener apprenticeship program;
AND
License and Certification
Requires possession of a valid California driver's license.
Notes
Candidates must be insurable under the department's automobile liability insurance policy. After employment, employees must maintain insurability and valid driver license.
Some positions require twelve (12) months verifiable experience in the installation and maintenance of interior landscapes which includes plant identification and the ability to recognize pest and disease that are specific to interior landscape plants.

**You will be responsible for (but not limited to)** :
+ Employees in this classification work under the direct supervision of a supervisor or a higher-level employee or Lead.
+ Employees in this classification independently maintain, repair and install sprinkler systems and landscape elements throughout the campus. They also maintain decorative and landscape fountains while monitoring the fountain water levels, circulation and clarity.
+ Sprinkler/Landscape Specialists receive minimal supervision; they must be able to identify issues and determine corrections for significant repairs or installations. + Three years sprinkler/irrigation and landscape experience required or a combination of equivalent education and work experience.
+ Valid California Non-commercial Class C Driver's license.

Position Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Groundskeeper I reports to the Vice President of Administrative Services at San Jose City College. The work schedule is 12 months per year; Monday - Friday; 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
This position is represented by the California School Employees Association (CSEA), Chapter 363.
POSITION PURPOSE
Under general supervision, performs routine general gardening and grounds maintenance work necessary to provide a clean, safe, and litter-free campus landscape and assist in the renovation and care of landscaped areas; a wide variety of turf mowing, tree care and other landscaping maintenance equipment.
General supervision is provided after a training period by the Grounds Supervisor. Technical or functional supervision may also be provided by higher level grounds personnel.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
1. Work alone or as a member of a grounds maintenance crew as required.
2. Empty trash and garbage cans on a daily basis; insert clean plastic bags; maintain large refuse container areas in a clean and orderly condition.
3. Maintain high usage areas in a clean, sanitary condition; wash garbage cans, patio and quad areas; keep other areas such as seating areas, bus stops, walks and steps, parking areas, exterior student union areas and entrances to buildings free of cigarette butts, papers, leaves and spills.
4. Sweep, rake and pick-up litter and debris from the entire campus daily; rake and sweep up leaves with power sweeper; clean up pruning's as needed; sweep parking lots following a set schedule and after athletic events.
5. Clean drains in patios and quads; clean fountains and lake surface; hand water planters and shrubs where no automatic irrigation exists.
6. Pick up gasoline for grounds equipment weekly and assist Equipment and Vehicle Mechanic washing district vehicles and assist with other assignments as assigned.
7. Mow turf-grass areas, edge turf and groundcover and trim shrubs with power tools and equipment; assist in new landscaping and irrigation projects and repair, athletic field renovation and pesticide application under the trained guidance of employee with pesticide applicator certification as required.
8. Assist in athletic field setups for P.E. Department and community education events and activities.
9. Operate a forklift and train on all equipment used by department.
10. Pick-up and deliver supplies as assigned.
11. Participate in district training as requested.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Description
Farmscape is looking for a Landscape Construction Crew Lead to help bring beautiful, food-focused, water-wise gardens to life across the Bay Area. This role bridges the gap between crew members and the Foreman, ensuring that work is performed safely, efficiently, and to Farmscape's high standards of craftsmanship. Our install team works Monday - Friday from 6:00am-2:30pm, and offers great benefits.
Location: Oakland, CA
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:00am-2:30pm

Job Responsibilities:
Lead daily install work on residential and commercial landscape jobs (hardscape, carpentry, planting, drainage, irrigation).
Coach and motivate crew members to produce clean, high-quality landscape garden installations.
Maintain jobsite pace and workflow, stepping in to direct the crew when the Foreman is off-site.
Read and interpret landscape plans, then execute with precision.
Build parts lists for irrigation and construction so the crew has what they need.
Operate tools and equipment safely, including lasers and heavy equipment as needed.
Train and mentor newer crew nenbers in Farmscape best practices.
Communicate professionally with clients and route concerns to the Foreman
Drive between sites and vendors (valid driver's license required).
Qualifications:
3+ years of landscape construction experience
Experience leading or mentoring a crew
Strong knowledge of irrigation, grading, drainage, hardscape, and carpentry.
Comfortable reading plans and building to spec
Able to calculate grades, use lasers, and work safely with equipment
Valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
Clear communicator who takes pride in craftmanship

Work outdoors in various weather conditions
Stand, walk, bend, and perform physical labor for extended periods
