Under the direction of the Shift Supervisors, Director of Clean Services, Operations Manager, and the Landscape Lead, Landscape Ambassadors will provide landscape and cleaning services within the Clean & Safe's 275-block radius of Downtown San Diego. Neighborhoods within this radius include Cortez Hill, Columbia, Marina, City Center, East Village, and the Gaslamp Quarter. Every Landscape Ambassador is responsible for conducting landscaping services in these neighborhoods. Acting as the eyes and ears for their neighborhood and the Downtown San Diego community requires excellent customer service skills and the desire to help others.
Essential Job Functions & Duties - 90%
Lawn and irrigation management -
Lawn maintenance: Mowing, seeding, sod installation, and aeration techniques.
Irrigation systems: Installing, repairing, and scheduling irrigation systems, including drip irrigation.
Water management: Understanding how much water different soil beds require and adjusting as needed.
Horticulture and plant care -
Plant knowledge: Understanding the needs of different plant species (native, drought-tolerant, invasive), flowers, and trees.
Pruning and trimming: The ability to trim, prune, and shear hedges, shrubs, and small trees for aesthetic and safety reasons.
Soil management: Preparing soil, amending it, fertilizing, and mulching. Understanding pH levels, nutrients, and drainage.
Pest and weed control: Managing weeds and pests to maintain plant health.
Design and planning -
Landscape design: Creating mock-ups and plans for flowerbeds, features, and overall layouts.
Seasonal planning: Developing a plan for the landscape that considers all four seasons.
Other -
Perform landscape maintenance, which involves raking leaves and removing weeds
Perform tree trimming in all neighborhoods
Perform tree planting and tree removal in all neighborhoods
Respond to landscaping calls from businesses and property owners
Remove graffiti and stickers on public property such as stops signs, light poles, sidewalks, and utility boxes.
Lift heavy trash bags (up to 50lbs) and empty public trash receptacles
Pick up any illegal dumped trash located in their field of operations
Clean, maintain and operate issued equipment, including vehicles, phones, and radios
Obey traffic laws and code compliance regulations in accordance with California State law.
Provide excellent customer service assistance with residents, business owners, tourists, and patrons
Participate in daily line-ups of and safety readings/stretches for the Clean Team
Conduct daily inspections of personnel and equipment before and after use
Perform quality assurance duties as directed
Perform daily pre/post vehicle inspections and document vehicle status
Compile daily statistics using eponic work logs, recording completed work orders
Complete quarterly training under the direction of shift Supervisor every 3 months.
Perform other tasks as assigned by Executive Director, Senior Program Director, Director of Clean Services, Operations Manager, and Shift Supervisors.
Administrative Tasks - 10%
Adhere to all local, state, federal guidelines and laws. (i.e. HIPAA, OSHA, FLSA, traffic laws)
Adhere to all of the DSDP policies and procedures
Answer all calls and radios communication, in a polite and professional manner

The New Catholic Diocesan Cemetery Serving North San Diego County - An exciting opportunity exists for a groundskeeper. This position works collaboratively with other groundskeepers and the grounds supervisor.
Position Summary:
Prepares graves and maintains cemetery grounds, including but not limited to, excavating of graves, burial functions (installing vaults, concrete crypts, and urns), sodding, seeding, fertilizing, monument and marker setting, operating earth moving and lawn care equipment, and cemetery cleanup.
Key Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Follows all safety rules and regulations. Brings safety concerns to direct supervisor.
Responsible for the overall presentation and appearance of the cemetery which includes: mowing grass, pruning shrubs, trimming trees, spreading of pesticide/herbicide, and planting/maintaining landscaping.
Monitor sprinkler system and all lawn maintenance equipment and conduct or schedule repairs as needed.

Assist clients with the location of gravesites.
Directs traffic for services.
Saturday hours may be required on a rotating basis.

+ Cut turf using various-sized power mowers, trimming, and edging using a gas-powered edger/trimmer, and operating a gas-powered blower
+ Prune shrubs and low trees as needed to improve the shape or growth habit, or to remove damaged branches
+ Plant and maintain flower beds
+ Operate the edger and line trimmer along sidewalks, flower beds, trees, buildings, fences, and other objects
+ Pick up trash and blow leaves and other organic debris onto the turf before mowing.
