Job Summary
Langan is seeking a Midwest Civil Practice / Office Leader to spearhead the firm's growth in the Columbus, OH Metropolitan area. This individual will play a key function in the expansion of our Midwest practice, serving as a growth engine for a newly-established multidisciplinary operation. In this role, you will have the opportunity to build and lead a cross-functional team with the backing of executive leadership and an existing diverse, high-profile regional portfolio.
Job Responsibilities
Leverage an entrepreneurial demeanor to drive Business Development activities by developing new clients for the firm and maintaining relationships with existing clients;
Work closely with regional leadership to develop growth plans and ensure staff utilization;
Demonstrate experience in all aspects of land development engineering including the integration of geotechnical and environmental engineering;
Lead site/civil efforts on a variety of project sites including the ability to design and oversee site layout, grading, drainage, infrastructure, erosion and sediment control, etc. from concept through completion;
Design and permit residential, institutional, commercial centers, warehouse distribution centers, and mixed-use projects for both public and private clients; and
Performs other duties as requested.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering;
10+ years of successful, local and related site/civil engineering experience with a concentration in land development on both small and large projects;
Professional Engineering license;
Strong client development and client management abilities;
Site/civil experience on a variety of project sites including the ability to design and oversee site layout, grading, drainage, infrastructure, erosion and sediment control, etc. from concept through completion;
Proficiency of AutoCAD or Civil 3D preferred;
Active participation in professional organizations;
Experience in technical and proposal writing;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment; and
Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver's license in good standing.

Job Responsibilities
Manage complex projects and assigned staff for successful execution of project components/tasks and ensuring scope and costs documented in project contract are followed correctly and efficiently;
Assist in identifying and hiring staff;
Prepare service products including assessment, evaluation, data recovery and monitoring reports; mitigation plans and training pamphlets; research designs and work plans; and additional products as needed;
Develop and prepare a variety of standard logs and field forms;
Lead tasks associated with the preparation, review and modification of various documents including reports, specifications, plans, cost estimates and research designs, work plans, etc;
Perform and manage tasks within specific budgets and schedules. Track task and project budgets and manage client accounts;
Interact in a professional manner with client and subcontractor representatives in close collaboration with supervisor. Concisely explain services to clients, agency staff and Langan staff in laymen terms;
Supervise, schedule, and coordinate the work of staff archaeologists, paleontologists, and architectural historians; as-needed/on-call staff, interns and others who assist in specific assignments;

Coordinate and perform field inspection services, as needed;
Mentor, coach, and train staff. Develop training materials as requested;
Collaborate with company, practice and office team members on project tasks and assignments;
Assist other work groups within the same or different office locations and/or within the same or different disciplines on an as-needed basis;
Participate in cross-discipline training and assist with projects outside one's own discipline;
Remain current on cultural resource standard practices, guidelines, regulations, and best management practices and attend training to expand knowledge and skills; and
Actively participate in internal Health and Safety training and has strong commitment to Health and Safety in the workplace and field.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or closely-related field; Graduate degree (M.A. or Ph.D.) a plus;
Register of Professional Archaeologist (RPA) a plus;
6+ years professional experience in Archaeology;
Demonstrated experience preparing archaeological studies, reports, and plans, and successfully designing and leading archaeological fieldwork;
Demonstrated laboratory and technical analysis expertise;
Strong, concise writing, research, and data management skills;
Understanding of and practical experience in regulatory requirements specifically Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and have the ability to clearly communicate federal, state, and local regulatory requirements to clients;
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to concisely explain services in laymen terms.;
Experience in developing, communicating, and promoting services for business development purposes a plus;

As a professional services firm we are seeking Fire Protection Engineers to join our growing North America Fire Protection Engineering Team. We are better together. Fire Protection Engineers (FPEs) protect lives and property. They plan and design engineering projects that prevent fires from occurring and minimize the impact of those fires that do occur. Fire protection systems detect, control and reduce fire and smoke in buildings and structures. FPEs recommend materials, equipment, and systems to assist in safeguarding life and property against fire, analyze how fire behaves and model how safety features perform in a fire. They assess the fire protection needs within projects and document those in design analysis or basis of design reports. They create design documents for fire protection systems, including drawings, using computer-aided design (CAD) or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software, and specifications that are used to direct the construction of buildings and systems in the field. FPEs perform construction progress inspections and acceptance tests / commissioning to ensure that installed systems comply with the construction documents and applicable codes and that they function as intended. A Fire Protection Engineer performs engineering work under close supervision requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out a sequence of related fire protection engineering tasks such as the preparation of simple plans, designs, calculations, costs and bills of material in accordance with established codes, standards and drawings. The role applies professional concepts and expands upon learning while performing various phases of engineering work receiving detailed instruction.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Apply concepts of fire protection engineering through investigation and analysis to support engineering projects that may include design of fire suppression systems (sprinklers and standpipes, water supply, special hazard extinguishing systems), fire detection and alarm systems, and smoke control systems, selection of fire-resistant materials and assemblies, and development of egress strategies.
- Perform calculations to analyze and design engineering system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
- Gather information to support design decisions.
- Prepare engineering designs, drawings, specifications, presentations and reports with guidance from senior engineers.
- Verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.
- Work with other architecture and engineering design professionals in the coordination and delivery of projects under the direction of a senior engineer.
- Provide support services during construction, including submittal reviews, response to requests for information and contract document clarifications, construction progress inspections and acceptance testing.
- Perform other duties as assigned by senior engineering staff.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Knowledge of, and experience interpreting and applying, building and fire codes and NFPA standards.
- Knowledge of active and passive fire protection systems, including fire suppression systems, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke control systems, fire resistive construction and egress systems.
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting with internal and external clients.
- Strong technical writing, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD.
- Experience with Fire Dynamics Simulator, Contam, Pathfinder and other computer modeling software is a plus.
Education and Experience
Minimum of Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or other closely related engineering discipline with an emphasis in Fire Protection Engineering coursework.
Four (4) plus years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as those listed above.
Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) who has passed the fire protection engineering examination administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying, or actively working towards obtaining Fire Protection Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure.

Leadership and Direction
