Langan has an immediate opening for a Hazardous Building Materials Professional specializing in asbestos, lead based paint and PCB work based out of our New Haven, CT office. As the successful candidate, you will have an enthusiastic, can-do attitude with experience in performing hazardous building materials surveys and abatement monitoring, including but not limited to asbestos, lead, PCBs, universal waste, and mold. Job Responsibilities * The primary responsibilities of the position will be: * To assist with the completion of hazardous/regulated building material inspections; * Provide project monitoring during HBM abatement activities and collect the appropriate clearance sampling (Onsite reading of samples will not be required); * Assist with IAQ and PCB assessments; * Work periodic overtime and/or outside of normal business hours to complete the project; * Coordinate with laboratories and contractors; * Assist with report writing and developing project scopes of work; * Report directly to the HBM Practice Lead in New England; * Secondary responsibilities may include: * Cross-training in other Langan practice disciplines; * Coordination with staff and management in other disciplines; * Periodic travel to neighboring states (New England/NY) when necessary to support group workload; * Langan's baseline expectation is that you will take advantage of the opportunities we provide to develop your professional skills, and grow your Langan career within the HBM field. Job Requirements * Bachelor or Associates degree in Engineering, Architecture, Industrial Hygiene or Environmental Science related field required; * Minimum of 1 year of related hazardous building materials survey and abatement/remediation monitoring experience (asbestos, lead based paint and PCB experience is essential); * Thorough understanding of Connecticut and Federal (CT, NY and RI considered a plus) asbestos, lead, and PCB regulations/guidelines including: design protocols, survey requirements, abatement monitoring requirements and reporting; * Required Licenses/Certifications: * State of CT DPH Asbestos Inspector and Project Monitor * State of CT DPH Licensed Lead Inspector * Related licenses in other states (MA, NY, RI, etc.) and additional CT licenses (Lead Risk Assessor, Asbestos Designer) are considered a plus; * Ability to read and understand project specifications, drawings and plans, hazardous materials survey reports; * Experience performing surveys and project monitoring of environmental and building abatement projects relating to asbestos, lead based paint, PCBs and other hazardous building materials; * Experience with proposal writing, abatement/remediation estimates, report writing, and specifications is considered a plus; * Proficient using Microsoft Office; * Reliable transportation to access job sites and a valid driver's license in good standing; and flexibility and ability to work normal business hours as well as off hours; * Ability to multi-task with field and office work; and * Ability to work alone and in a team environment. This is a full-time position working with our Northeast Region Environmental Services (ES) group. Your Key Responsibilities * Compile, create and maintain spatial and non-spatial information for a variety of platforms primarily involving ESRI ArcGIS Software (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online (AGO)). * Work in Windows 11 Enterprise and using MS Office suite of applications (Teams, Outlook, Word, Access, Excel, SharePoint). * Produce custom thematic map products and carry out data analysis/summaries to support multidisciplinary project deliverables. * Prepare web maps, online dashboards, and manage data for field survey crews, using applications and platforms which include Survey 123, Field Maps, and ArcGIS Online. * Supporting geospatial field data collection efforts. Typical collected features include wetlands, waterways and rare, threatened, or endangered species occurrences or habitats. * Adhering to established cartographic standards and Quality Assurance / Quality Control processes. * Managing a wide variety of project-specific and reference geospatial data in accordance with defined data management standards. * Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions. * Collaborating with existing GIS staff members working in other Stantec offices. * Report to the Northeast Geospatial Team Lead. Your Capabilities and Credentials * Educated knowledge and experience working with Esri ArcGIS software suite, primarily ArcPro and ArcGIS Online, as well as ArcGIS Experience Builder, ArcGIS Field Maps, ArcGIS Survey123 and ArcGIS for Desktop. * Experience building and using a GIS to solve problems, present results, and graphically report analytical data for multi-disciplinary teams. * Technical training and experience in GIS mapping, geospatial analysis, and geographic principles (e.g., map projections and coordinate systems). * Demonstrates a knowledge of cartography and at least some understanding of graphic design. * Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. * Ability to meet project deadlines and understand how assigned tasks relate to project goals. * Ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships. * Ability to perform work accurately in a detail-oriented environment. * Exceptional visual, written, and verbal communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail. * Understands how to convert data from older sources such as maps and books into accurate digital formats. * Valid state driver's license Preferred * Knowledge of Arcade, Python, and other GIS Programming languages. * Working knowledge CAD software, such as AutoCAD or MicroStation platforms. * Experience performing environmental fieldwork using a GPS and post-processing data is beneficial but not required. * Experience working with LiDAR data. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team and be able to work independently. **Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:** Remediation System Operations: + Operating various remediation systems, including: + Soil vapor extraction systems. + Sub-slab depressurization systems (both active and passive). + Groundwater pump-and-treat systems utilize technologies such as granular activated carbon, zeolite, particle filtration, and air striping with off-gas treatment. Fieldwork & Sampling + Conducting routine fieldwork, such as: + Groundwater, soil, or air sampling under the close supervision of field task leaders. + Performing soil, groundwater, surface water, waste, sediment, air, and vapor sampling. + Using field tablets and computers to efficiently access, track, and record environmental data.
