Description
We are looking for a civil engineer with five or more years of experience to join our team in Naperville. A self-starter with good communication skills is essential. Self-discipline, willingness to learn, and flexibility are also required. The ideal candidate for this position will provide efficient and detailed work. They will be responsible for the development of project designs and construction documents by utilizing the most current version of AutoCAD. Projects will be related to:
Commercial site design
Residential site design
Grading
Drainage
Erosion control
Other civil-related projects
Basic Qualifications
B.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
At least five years of civil site design experience.
MS Office experience (Word and Excel).
Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
Preferred Qualifications
Licensed Professional Engineer.
Experience mentoring engineers.
Experience with construction observation and utilizing various surveying equipment.

Candidate will specialize in solar PV and battery energy storage performance modeling while getting the opportunity to expand their expertise across CSP, wind, geothermal, simple‑ and combined‑cycle gas, RICE, and fuel cell projects-building client-facing experience with utilities, developers, IPPs, and data center developers on complex, high‑visibility consulting engagements.
This position in Sargent & Lundy's Consulting group will require you to do the following:
+ Perform solar resource assessments considering both satellite-based and ground-based data
+ Analyze operational production and performance data and climatic data from solar projects
+ Lead and mentor a team of performance engineers responsible for modeling, design review, and technical optimization across the solar, wind and battery energy storage projects.
+ Conduct long-term solar PV energy production assessments using PVsyst and Excel-based post-processing tools.
+ Primarily focus on utility-scale solar assessments but support work across all scales including residential, commercial, and industrial
+ Predict energy production
+ Perform uncertainty analysis to determine probabilities of exceedance (e.g., P90, P95, P99)
+ Conduct statistical uncertainty analyses, clipping adjusted degradation analysis
+ Participate in energy yield assessment process improvement initiatives and process validation
+ Write technical due diligence reports and communicate results to clients and key stakeholders including developers and financiers
+ Incorporate appropriate PV modeling assumptions and inputs into simulation

+ Evaluating project execution plans from EPC contractors
+ Reviewing project contracts including PPA, EPC, and O&M agreements
+ Reviewing project CAPEX, OPEX, and performance parameters in financial models

RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Construction Management team, Construction Engineers will assist in various tasks including plan preparation, quantity calculations, geometric design, pavement marking/signing, drainage design, traffic studies, traffic signal design, public involvement, report writing, specifications, cost estimates, roadway lighting, and other related tasks. Candidates with a background in preliminary engineering or development of detailed plans and specifications are recommended. Receives instructions from Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers as to the general results expected.
Research design options and document findings.

Researches code requirements.
Prepares environmental impact and other administrative reports required for project permits.

Assist or participate in preparation of project proposals and other business development efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field with emphasis on construction engineering.
Professional Engineer Licensure in the State of Illinois
Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
Minimum 5 years progressively responsible experience as a Construction Engineer or similar position.
Demonstrate familiarity with ISTHA/IDOT policies, roadway design and plan preparation, and construction engineering.
Must have experience with MicroStation design software.

This position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your academic background in Instrumentation and Controls Engineering.
You will work on project teams with other I&C engineers involved in the design of new power plants, modifications to existing power generation facilities, and plant controls betterment.
You will be involved in power distribution designs and the preparation of specifications for the procurement of instrumentation and controls equipment and related installation services.
As a member of a multi-discipline project team, you will be involved in power plant design coordination, engineering calculation preparation, and electrical control circuit design.
Through mentoring, classroom-style technical sessions, and on-the-job training, you will increase your knowledge and skills in your engineering discipline.
There is the potential for you to travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.
Develop your career via peer-learning by way of S&L's systems of process and associated “Communities of Practice."
This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.

Essential skills and experience:
A BS or MS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (from an ABET accredited program) with a graduation in Spring or Winter 2025 and a strong academic background and coursework in analog and digital control systems is required
An understanding of the practical application of instrumentation and controls engineering and technology including applying systems, principles, techniques, and procedures to a project design.
Proficiency with MS Office applications, with emphasis on MS Excel and Access.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Effective experience working in a collaborative team environment.

Valued but not required skills and experience:
Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and designation as an Engineer in Training.
