Responsibilities:
• Requires the ability to install/de-install and operate transportable lasers and related equipment on one business unit at customer sites.

• Provide routine preventative maintenance and repairs on the laser systems to maximize usage and minimize downtime.

We are looking for an exceptional Principal Laser Engineer to join our innovative product development engineering team at Spectra-Physics, which is Lasers Business Unit of MKS Instruments. We push the boundaries of technology to develop a wide range of nanosecond, picosecond, and femtosecond lasers that address the needs of Industrial, Scientific, and Life and Health markets. In this position, you will develop new technologies and optical designs of free-space and fiber-based laser systems. You will work collaboratively within a project team and use your communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional team members.
What you will do is:
+ Propose, model, and experimentally validate innovative architectures and optical designs of laser oscillators, amplifiers, and harmonic conversion modules
+ Define test strategies, build, test and document system prototypes, create reports, and generate design documentation and transfer the design to production
+ Work in a multi-disciplinary team and interact with Electrical, Mechanical, Software and Manufacturing Engineers
+ Work with optical component vendors for component procurement, and performance and reliability evaluation
What you will bring to the team is:
+ BS degree and 7+ years or industry experience or MS degree and 5+ years industry experience or PhD and 2+ years industry experience
+ Experience designing and building optical systems and free-space beam alignment of laser oscillators or amplifiers
+ Ability to define optical experiments, set up and perform measurements, evaluate the results, and clearly communicate the conclusions to peer engineers and management
+ Knowledge of how to choose and utilize appropriate optical measurement instrumentation

* Develop new medical laser technologies and applications by experimentation and modeling. Design, setup, and conduct laboratory experiments and develop and apply software models to design and characterize the performance of new laser systems and simulate the interaction of optical radiation with tissues.
* Stay current with developments in academia and industry by reviewing relevant literature and attending conferences. Apply this knowledge base to develop new products and applications.
