Last Mile Health CEO and leadership

Global health professional with over 20 years of non-profit management experience and expertise in strategic partnerships and planning. Currently serve as the Chief Operating Officer at Last Mile Health, an organization committed to saving lives in the world’s most remote communities by partnering with government to demonstrate, design, scale, and advocate for national networks of professional community health workers. Prior work has focused on reducing health care access gaps in the United States, tailoring programs and services to meet the needs of runaway and homeless youth, those living with mental illness, and those combating substance abuse.

Sarah Parish is a Chief Of Staff at Last Mile Health and is based in Atlanta, Georgia. She has worked as New Business Development Coordinator at PATHFINDER INTERNATIONAL, Grants Manager at Last Mile Health, and Senior Planning and Development Manager at ICAP. Sarah attended University of East Anglia between 2009 and 2010 and University of Puget Sound between 2001 and 2005.

Amy Walburn is the Chief Development Officer for Last Mile Health. In this role, she leads the Partnerships and Development team to cultivate transformative partnerships that advance and elevate Last Mile Health’s impact. Amy joined Last Mile Health in 2015, serving as the Director of National Partnerships in Liberia before transitioning into the role of Director of Partnerships and Development in Boston in 2016. Amy brings over 10 years of diverse international and nonprofit management experience to her work with Last Mile Health, previously working as a project manager at the American University of Beirut and as Director of Financial Reporting at Fonkoze in Haiti. Amy holds an MBA from the American University of Beirut and a BA in Religious Studies from DePaul University.

Motivated by a passion for building resilient health systems and leaders, James Nardella serves as Chief Program Officer for Last Mile Health. He oversees the impact and quality of Last Mile Health-supported country programming across Africa and supports the development of the organization’s global initiatives in community health systems education, research, and technical advisory.

Prior to joining Last Mile Health, James served as Principal on the Portfolio & Investments Team at the Skoll Foundation. He led the Foundation’s relationship with a $40M portfolio of current Skoll Awardees and managed a team responsible for tracking the pipeline of candidates and monitoring the performance of past Skoll Awardees.

Prior to Skoll, James led the Lwala Community Alliance, a Kenyan health and development organization known for its community approach to increasing child survival, skilled delivery rates, and access to HIV care.

James holds a B.F.A. in Theatre Arts from Boston University and a M.Ed. in International Education Policy and Leadership from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. James is married to Jena Lee Nardella, the co-founder of Blood:Water and the author of One Thousand Wells.

Joshua Albert serves as the Chief of Staff at Last Mile Health. In this role, Josh oversees the implementation of Last Mile Health’s multi-year strategy in coordination with senior leadership. Josh joined Last Mile Health in 2012, when he Served in Monrovia, Liberia as Last Mile Health’s Director of Operations and was then promoted to Country Director and Chief Operating Officer. Under Josh’s leadership, team to launched Last Mile Health’s first community health worker pilot in Konobo District, responded to the 2014-2015 Ebola outbreak, and supported the Liberia Ministry of Health to design and launch the National Community Health Assistant Program. Josh subsequently advised the planning and launch of Last Mile Health’s Community Health Academy. Josh holds a Masters in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and a Bachelors in Government from Georgetown University.

Nathan Hutto is the Chief Operating Officer at Last Mile Health. In this role, he oversees the organization’s business services, operations, and people strategies designed to develop, support, and retain a diverse and talented global workforce. Nathan first joined Last Mile Health in 2018, serving as Chief People Officer and then Chief Administrative Officer. Prior to joining Last Mile Health, he was the Director of Talent Policy at UP Education Network and has previously held talent and research positions across the education and social sector, including doctoral research on health disparities in the United States. Nathan has a bachelor’s degree in American Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Boston and a Master of Social Work and PhD in Social Policy Analysis from Columbia University.
