Lathe Operator Job Responsibilities:
- Load/unload logs from machine
- Works from detailed work orders
- Set stripper knives to proper score lengths
- Sets up lathe machines by positioning and locating work piece
- Control and adjust machine settings
- Operates wood lathe
- Performs routine preventative maintenance and cleaning on assigned machines
- Learns to use the hand tools needed to perform the job
- Sets-up new knives and nose bars
Desired Experience:
- Reliable and able to work with attention to detail and safety standards
- Bending, standing, and walking is required for most of the shift
- Physical strength to handle up to 50-pound objects
- Ability to communicate issues verbally and in written form
- Some knowledge of inspection gauges and equipment

Job Description: Lathe Operator /Machinist

Job Functions:
- Set up, tend, and operate Lathe
- Set up and Operate a Turning machine to turn, bore, thread, form, or face metal materials.
- Work from drawings and written instructions to create parts for customer-specific equipment precision/close tolerances.
- Fabricate and/or modify parts using various industrial equipment and tooling.
- Adjust both conventional and automatic controls.
- Troubleshoot equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance.
- Must be forklift certified.
Job knowledge:
- Knowledge of various metals.
- Strong mathematical knowledge; measurements.
- Ability to read blueprints
- Strong knowledge of machining procedures.
Education:
- High School or Equivalency
- Two years of Trade school or equivalent experience.
Working Conditions :
- Typical manufacturing facility conditions (Indoors ~95% / Outdoors ~5%)
- The facility is heated in winter, but not air-conditioned in summer
- Employees must be able to stand on concrete floors for a minimum of eight hours. Kneeling, squatting, bending over, and standing for long periods may be required to perform assigned tasks.
- It can occasionally be loud, especially in local areas where grinding or machine testing is taking place. Ear plugs are provided for work performed where noise is a factor.
Other:
- Must have own basic tools. List of teammates provided tools includes box/open end/socket wrench sets, Allen wrench set, screwdriver set, tap handles, pliers, combination square, 9" level, and tape measure. English and metric tool sets are recommended. A lockable toolbox is also recommended.
- Safety glasses and steel-toed safety shoes are required.
- Long pants and a sleeved shirt (short sleeves at a minimum) are required.
