Laundry Attendant Job Overview

Laundry Attendants are responsible for processing sorted linen, distributing clean linen and keeping a clean and organized work area. Additionally, Laundry Attendants contribute to the overall safety and security of the hotel by reporting damage, following safety rules, and assisting in emergency situations.

Primary Responsibilities

Receive and sort soiled linen into appropriate containers.

Process sorted linen utilizing the washers, dryers, sheet spreaders, ironers, and feeder/folder delivering a finished product that is inspected and meets quality standards.

Maintain assigned work area in a clean and safe condition.

Notify supervisor of malfunctioning equipment, supplies needed, damaged linens, to ensure laundry operation is running at maximum efficiency level.

Qualifications

Must be able to manage time according to laundry machine cycles to complete job tasks.

Ability to operate commercial laundry equipment.

Effectively communicate with co-workers who may not speak the same language.

Good eye for detail.

No Supervisory responsibilities required for this job.

Work Environment

This job operates in a hotel environment; the majority of the work is performed in the laundry area of the hotel. Requires the use of laundry equipment and machines, laundry and cleaning chemicals, and manual labor. Constant exposure to noise from commercial laundry equipment. Exposure to warmer temperatures created by laundry equipment.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Constant physical movement is involved in performing the duties and tasks of a Laundry Attendant. Frequently position self to lift and transport linen to machines and guest room floors. Will transport up to 300 lbs., will position up to 50 lbs. and will move up to 30 lbs. Constant exposure to noise from commercial laundry equipment.

Mental Demands

The mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Must have mental alertness and be able to operate laundry equipment and utilize the machine programs that are required to wash and dry the linens. Ability to determine if the linen meets the cleanliness requirement of the hotel.

Our Housekeeping Department is seeking a dependable and flexible person to work as a Laundry Attendant to process patients’ linen throughout the healthcare facility.

The Laundry Attendant distributes linen daily or as needed. Picks up empty linen carts daily or as needed. Removes soiled laundry from all assigned areas and transport to laundry department as needed. Performs all assigned duties assigned by the Housekeeping Director.

Laundry Attendant Responsibilities:

· Collecting and sorting soiled linen, loading, and unloading machines, and folding clean linen.

· Operates computer-operated washers and dryers

· Counting and recording the linen processed each day, making proper delivers to the units.

· Delivers personal clothing to the appropriate resident.

· Cleaning and sanitizing the work area including machines, worktables, and sorting areas.

· Reports equipment and cleaning product needs and or malfunctions to Housekeeping Director in a timely fashion.

· Responsible for the safe and proper use of detergents and chemicals and adheres to all safety precautions.

· Utilizes protective gear in all appropriate functions

· Must be able to work independently.

· Lift, bending, twisting, reaching, pull, push up to 50 lbs.

Laundry Attendant Qualification:

· The ability to read, write, and speak English is essential.

· No formal education required. A high school diploma is desirable.

· Previous experience in a healthcare facility, specifically the housekeeping and laundry department is helpful, however on-site training and orientation provided.

· The ability to provide and follow oral, written, and verbal instruction is vital.

· The ability to fulfill all pre-employment requirements as required by the facility and Lucent.

This position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining linen/soft goods to CSM quality standards. Assists housekeepers and guests as needed by providing friendly, courteous and professional service, and adheres to all health regulations. Follows CSM high standards of quality to ensure guest satisfaction. Coordinates the efforts of the laundry production.

• Responsible for cleaning and maintaining linen/soft goods by working industrial washers and dryers in the laundry department.
• Cleans all equipment, carts, tables and floors.
• Inspects linens for wear or stains during folding.
• Separates torn and stained linen.
• Keeps soiled linen away from clean linen.
• Uses proper wash procedures according to type of linen.
• Conducts monthly linen inventory.
• Cleans lint traps and sweeps laundry rooms.
• Accountable for guest satisfaction as it pertains to laundry service at the property.
• Assists and responds to guest and coworker requests in a positive and timely manner while providing the highest level of quality service.
• Works as a team player in meeting guests and department needs, and actively contributes to the efforts of other departments as necessary.
• Understands and follows CSM guest service recovery program.
• Ensures a clean and safe work area in compliance with CSM, brand, local, state and federal regulations.
• Reports all maintenance needs and service issues.
• Knowledgeable on safe use of chemicals utilized within the housekeeping department.
• Follows all CSM procedures for guest/employee incidents. Knowledgeable of hotel emergency procedures.
• Produces required volume of work by planning, organizing and prioritizing work duties.
• Adheres to CSM attendance policy, grooming and appearance standards, and general work rules and department procedures.
• Attends all required department and hotel meetings.
• Responsible for proper use of all equipment and supplies.

Competencies/Skills Required: Housekeeping/laundry experience preferred. Attention to detail, customer focused and the ability to perform job duties in repetitious and fast paced environment.

Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, push and pull up to 75 pounds on a consistent basis throughout shift. Significant bending required.
