Laundry Attendant Job Overview

Laundry Attendants are responsible for processing sorted linen, distributing clean linen and keeping a clean and organized work area. Additionally, Laundry Attendants contribute to the overall safety and security of the hotel by reporting damage, following safety rules, and assisting in emergency situations.

Primary Responsibilities

Receive and sort soiled linen into appropriate containers.

Process sorted linen utilizing the washers, dryers, sheet spreaders, ironers, and feeder/folder delivering a finished product that is inspected and meets quality standards.

Maintain assigned work area in a clean and safe condition.

Notify supervisor of malfunctioning equipment, supplies needed, damaged linens, to ensure laundry operation is running at maximum efficiency level.

Qualifications

Must be able to manage time according to laundry machine cycles to complete job tasks.

Ability to operate commercial laundry equipment.

Effectively communicate with co-workers who may not speak the same language.

Good eye for detail.

No Supervisory responsibilities required for this job.

Work Environment

This job operates in a hotel environment; the majority of the work is performed in the laundry area of the hotel. Requires the use of laundry equipment and machines, laundry and cleaning chemicals, and manual labor. Constant exposure to noise from commercial laundry equipment. Exposure to warmer temperatures created by laundry equipment.

The Laundry Attendant distributes linen daily or as needed. Picks up empty linen carts daily or as needed. Removes soiled laundry from all assigned areas and transport to laundry department as needed. Performs all assigned duties assigned by the Housekeeping Director.

Laundry Attendant Responsibilities:

· Collecting and sorting soiled linen, loading, and unloading machines, and folding clean linen.

· Operates computer-operated washers and dryers

· Counting and recording the linen processed each day, making proper delivers to the units.

· Delivers personal clothing to the appropriate resident.

· Cleaning and sanitizing the work area including machines, worktables, and sorting areas.

· Reports equipment and cleaning product needs and or malfunctions to Housekeeping Director in a timely fashion.

· Responsible for the safe and proper use of detergents and chemicals and adheres to all safety precautions.

· Utilizes protective gear in all appropriate functions

· Must be able to work independently.

· Lift, bending, twisting, reaching, pull, push up to 50 lbs.

Laundry Attendant Qualification:

· The ability to read, write, and speak English is essential.

· No formal education required. A high school diploma is desirable.

· Previous experience in a healthcare facility, specifically the housekeeping and laundry department is helpful, however on-site training and orientation provided.

· The ability to provide and follow oral, written, and verbal instruction is vital.
