The Ohio Attorney General's Office is currently seeking a detailed orientated public minded individual for a Law Clerk position to assist the Criminal Justice Section, Capital Crimes Unit which deals primarily with death penalty cases. The initial project will be to assist in the compilation of the section's Annual Report of Capital Cases detailing the status of every case which has received a death sentence in Ohio. The selected candidate will also learn the very niche area of law that is habeas corpus and have the opportunity to assist with legal research and brief writing. The successful candidate will be in their 2nd or 3rd year of law school, and have a passion and skill for strong legal research. This position will work a hybrid in-person/remote schedule. There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The headquarter location is 30 E. Broad St. Columbus, Ohio 43215.
Job duties may include, but are not limited to:
·Assists staff attorney in conducting legal research on issues from political subdivisions throughout the State of Ohio (e.g., county, township, state, municipal offices, etc.
·Locates and reviews case and statutory law in regard to inquiries of various state and federal rules, policy procedures, funds and budgets to determine applicability and support for substantive and procedural legal issues for political subdivisions
·Provides oral or written report of research and findings
·Edits legal documents, reviews court transcripts, reviews notes taken during disciplinary hearings and records observations
Enrolled and in good standing as a 2L or 3L in law school (preferred 2L)

What You'll Do:
Serves as second level management employee. Deals with complex & difficult legal matters. Works under administration direction, plans, directs, & coordinates the legal programs of the agency for the following:
Acts as lead legal counsel for provider certification
Serves as legal liaison with other state agencies, county boards of developmental disabilities and people, and their representatives and family who receive services within the developmental disabilities system
Provides limited guidance to provider compliance regarding sanctions
Provides legal research, consultation, and advice for O.R.C. chapter 119 hearings
Provides difficult cases for hearings, trials, and appeals in coordination with the Attorney General
Serves as the primary point of contact and administers the department's public records and records retention functions.
Responds to subpoenas issued to the agency in state and federal cases and investigative requests from state and federal agencies.
Fills the role of records retention coordinator.
Performs other legal duties, as needed, related to operation of the agency and agency programs & responsibilities, including the following\:
Provides full range of legal advice & counsel to the agency's director, deputy directors, managers, & professional staff.
Researches and drafts legal opinions, orders, memoranda & other legal documents.
Analyzes, reviews & drafts administrative rules & legislation.
Provides staff training.
Responds to legal inquiries from government officials & the public.
Researches and drafts contracts, grants, interagency agreements, leases, policies & procedures
Provides guidance and advice to internal and external partners for all departmental Workers' Compensation program (BWC) matters and consults and advises on labor issues.
Serves as the legal primary point of contact for contracted administrators of the BWC program and provides guidance and advice regarding the process and case management.
Reviews outside counsel invoices to ensure compliance with billing guidelines.
Performs other related duties as assigned (e.g. attends staff meetings & training sessions; maintains case records & files; travels as required)

The Ohio Board of Nursing is seeking a qualified candidate for our available Attorney 4 position to assist in the Compliance Unit.
THIS POSITION SERVES IN THE UNCLASSIFIED SERVICE AS OUTLINED UNDER OHIO REVISED CODE (ORC) 124.11 (A)(9)
This position will work under the direction/supervision of a Supervising Attorney and will perform the following job duties:
Assist in administering and implementing the Board of Nursing Adjudication program
Review completed investigation reports to determine if sufficient evidence exists to propose disciplinary action
Consult and confer with Supervising Attorney and/or Chief Legal Counsel and/or Board Supervising Member for Disciplinary Matters to determine course of action (e.g., Notice of Opportunity for Hearing, Consent Agreement or Examination Order, eligibility for alternative programs, close due to lack of evidence/no violation, etc.)
Confer with Attorney General's Office (AGO) staff regarding agency position in settlement conferences/negotiations for post-notice Consent Agreements
Draft Notices of Immediate and Automatic Suspension
Ensure documentation of activity on cases in appropriate databases
Cooperate with and act as legal liaison to Assistant Attorney General (AAG) on assigned cases at the appellate level and filing certified record in appeals cases
Prepares exhibits and identifies evidence in cases in which no administrative hearing has been requested by the respondent (i.e., "no request cases")
Assists with motions and orders during and after Board Meetings
