Powers Miller is a 10-attorney Roseville insurance defense law firm seeking an attorney. The attorney must have an active California Bar License in good standing. *What can you expect from Powers Miller? *The case load is diverse, and you can anticipate working on personal injury actions involving motor vehicle accidents, products liability, homeowners' claims, premises liability and commercial litigation. The new associate will work with the partners and handle depositions, pre-trial preparation, hearings, mediations, and appeals. Associates who have a desire to try cases will be given the opportunity to do so, but if the associate would rather assist in trial preparation, we have many cases where that associate can work with the trial attorney.
The law firm billable hour requirement is 1,920 hours per year or 160 hours per month. There is a potential for significant quarterly bonuses based on productivity. The associate will work with a legal assistant who has significant litigation experience.
*What is Powers Miller looking for in an associate attorney? *An attorney interested in taking depositions, preparing, and responding to discovery, and pre-trial preparation as well as handling all aspects of insurance defense matters. *Compensation:* The base starting salary range is $100,000 to $200,000 depending on experience. In addition, the firm provides quarterly bonuses, exclusively based upon productivity. Given the diverse work at the firm, associates currently at the firm routinely receive bonuses. The firm offers 80 hours of vacation time which is accrued throughout the year.
We cover 100 percent of employee premiums for health and dental insurance and 50 percent of the premiums for any employee dependants. We have a 401k plan and contribute 3 percent of the employee's total compensation to their 401k account.

The LawClerk is a member of the legal department who may be assigned to work primarily with one or more of the legal teams as needed. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Immigration Legal Assistance:
Assist attorneys to provide representation to clients with cases involving issues such as criminal history, immigration law violations, family law issues, current or previous removal proceedings, appeals, or other issues related to their immigration matters as needed.
Assist attorneys with the preparation, review, revision, and submission of any documents needed to address a client's immigration issues, including but not limited to, applications, motions, legal memos or briefs, petitions or requests.
Assist attorneys to represent individuals before federal, state or local courts, agencies or tribunals at all levels as needed to properly address and resolve issues for clients in their cases. Such representation should follow both ethical and professional responsibility obligations as well as funder requirements.
Ability to work effectively under pressure with urgent deadlines.
Research and analyze complex and straightforward legal matters pertaining to own caseload and assuming responsibility and risk for outcomes of client cases.
Screen potential clients for all potential and available immigration benefits that they may qualify for and use that information to assess their ability to successfully pursue and obtain those benefits.
Communicate to potential clients an assessment or evaluation of their immigration cases or circumstances, including but not limited to any rights these individuals possess, any requirements these individuals must complete, and any deadlines they must comply with.
Stay up to date with changes in immigration law and other immigration-related developments in order to be able to provide clients with the best representation possible in their immigration matters.
Make appropriate referrals as necessary for immigration legal services beyond the scope of the program or one's own competencies, and for other social service needs.
Assume caseload of any departing staff member as needed.
Customer Service and Community Outreach:
Communicate and interact with clients with professionalism, respect, compassion, and sensitivity to their life circumstances and potential or actual trauma that they have suffered.
Maintain regular communication with clients and provide them with updates regarding their cases no later than 90 days after the last case update provided to them.
Respond to any client communications or inquiries no later than within 48 - 72 hours of receipt of message from client(s).
Participate at in-person legal screening events, community presentations, and other special events as scheduled. For example, participation is required on Saturday Legal Triage events, which are scheduled on alternating Saturday mornings (7A - 12P) throughout the year.
Support CHIRLA's fundraising goals including annual fundraising drive and GALA activities.
Reporting Obligations and Program Efficiency:
Update case notes with any developments or client interactions within 48 - 72 hours to provide accurate and up to date information for other staff to rely on in a timely manner.
Update and maintain current all databases, tracking sheets or other documents mandated by policies and procedures issued by CHIRLA, the legal department, and any legal team(s) to which they are assigned.

TYPICAL DUTIES
Studies, interprets, and applies laws, court decisions, and other legal authorities for use in the preparation of cases, opinions, and briefs. Assists attorneys in the preparation of deeds, contracts, pleadings, resolutions, and legal opinions. Confers with others regarding the collection of facts; investigates facts relating to proposed or pending litigation. Assists in the preparation of correspondence and reports.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Satisfactory completion of one year in a law school of recognized standing.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Student LawClerks must maintain continued enrollment and satisfactory progress in a recognized law school in order to hold this classification.
KNOWLEDGE
The principles and practices of legal research methods; preparation of briefs and opinions; the principles of law and their application.
ABILITY
Analyze and apply legal principles, facts, evidence, and precedence to legal problems; learn to present statements of law, fact, and argument clearly and logically in written and oral form; perform research and assist in the preparation of legal opinions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Selection Procedures
Applicants for part-time and temporary recruitments who meet the minimum qualifications are either referred to the hiring department for further selection or they may be required to take a written examination. If a written examination is given, the top candidates may be referred to the hiring department for further selection.
Testing Accommodation: Candidates who require testing accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) must call Human Resources Division at ************** prior to the examination date.
Physical Exam: Some classifications require physical examinations. Final appointment cannot be made until the eligible has passed the physical examination. The County pays for physical examinations administered in its medical facilities.
Pre-employment Drug Screening Exam: Some classifications require a new employee successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen as a condition of employment. Final appointment cannot be made until the eligible has passed the drug screen. The County pays for the initial drug screen.
Employment of Relatives: Applicants who are relatives of employees in a department within the 3rd degree of relationship, (parent, child, grandparent, grandchild or sibling) either by blood or marriage, may not be appointed, promoted, transferred into or within the department when:
* They are related to the Appointing Authority, or
* The employment would result in one of them supervising the work of the other
Department Heads may establish additional limitations on the hiring of relatives by departmental rule.
Proof of Eligibility: If you are offered a job, you will be required to provide proof of U.S. citizenship or other documents that establish your eligibility to be employed in the U.S.
