About the Role:
Legal Aid of Nebraska is seeking a Managing Attorney to lead our North Platte office. This role is ideal for an attorney who is passionate about advancing justice, mentoring others, and building relationships that make a lasting impact in rural Nebraska.
The Managing Attorney works closely with the Executive Director and leadership team to guide the local office's operations, support staff development, and ensure Legal Aid maintains strong relationships with the local bench, bar, community partners, and client community. In addition to leadership responsibilities, this position includes direct client representation and advocacy on behalf of low-income Nebraskans.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Representation & Advocacy
Provide high-quality legal representation to clients.
Conduct litigation at the administrative, trial, and appellate levels.
Advocate on behalf of Nebraska's low-income population on issues aligned with Legal Aid's priorities.
Leadership & Office Management
Foster a positive, collaborative, and mission-driven team culture.
Partner with leadership, unit directors, and managers to support and motivate staff.
Provide input for staff evaluations and professional development.
Ensure effective coordination of casework, outreach, and community engagement activities.
Keep leadership informed about local developments and community needs.
Community Engagement & External Relations
Build and maintain relationships with the local bar, bench, and community organizations.
Represent Legal Aid in community events and outreach activities.
Promote Legal Aid's services and refer clients to appropriate resources.
Support recruitment of private attorneys for pro bono efforts.
Development & Communications
Identify and assist with grant and funding opportunities.
Contribute to grant proposals and reports.
Collaborate with communications staff on media and outreach opportunities.
Administrative & Other Duties
Oversee daily office operations and maintenance.
Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and Legal Aid policies.
Utilize firm technology systems (Microsoft Office, PIKA, Paylocity, etc.).
Conduct legal research and stay current on developments in relevant practice areas.
Perform other duties as assigned to support Legal Aid's mission.
Qualifications:
Required Education & Licensure
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
Licensed to practice law in Nebraska and member in good standing with the Nebraska State Bar (or eligible for admission).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS. The Workers Compensation Attorney is responsible for the following essential duties:
Provide legal counsel to clients on all aspects of workers compensation cases, including evaluating the merits of a workers compensation case, providing guidance and counsel through effective communication, medical review, and negotiating, settling, and litigating cases.
Draft pleadings, motions, and briefs.
Effectively communicate with clients and the managing attorney(s) to understand and effectuate the client's goals.
Negotiate settlements with opposing counsel.
Analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and research case law, statutes, regulations, and documents impacting the firm's clients.

Ameritas Agency and Advisor Distribution is seeking a Legal Intern - Financial Planning with the aptitude and desire to apply legal, accounting, and marketing skills to help position Ameritas as a premier wealth management company. In this role, the intern will gain experience developing educational materials designed to help financial advisors better inform their clients. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and energetic individual eager to apply their intellectual strengths in a non-traditional setting.
Position Location:
This is a hybrid role (Lincoln, NE) working partially in-office and partially from home.
Position Start Date:
This internship would start as soon as possible.
What you do:
* Assist in the preparation of high-level case designs for business, estate, and retirement planning cases
* Support the creation financial planning solutions using advanced strategies, including trusts and charitable strategies
* Create marketing copy for concepts based upon new tax and legal developments
* Submit and monitor content through Ad Review
* Create quarterly production reports
* Update existing plans and cases
* Provide general support to the Advanced Planning team.
What you bring:
* Must be a second or third-year law student.
* Candidates must be enrolled in a law program, at least half-time as defined by their institution for the entire duration of the internship.
* Ability to commit to a 12-month internship working full-time in the summer and part-time during the school year.
* Full-time hours: 30-40 hours per week
* Part-time hours: 15-20 hours per week
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* An interest in tax, trusts, estate planning and/or financial planning
* Possess the ability to work autonomously and, when presented with an unknown, motivated to do one's own research to find the answer or solution
* Inquisitive in nature, eager to learn and willing to take initiative
* Capable of writing accurately about the business
* Possess strong relationship building skills
