The selected candidate will work primarily on voting rights cases, including cases to provide greater access to the polls and statutory disenfranchisement. The position is a full-time, exempt, & salaried position. This position is a part of the bargaining unit. The position will report to the Legal Director and work with the Legal Department and other staff members across the organization to create high impact litigation strategies and handle all aspects of the affiliate's ongoing and future litigation. The position will be filled as either a Staff Attorney or Senior Staff Attorney, commensurate with experience as outlined below. Pay Rate/Range: $20-22/hr Description: Will be responsible for providing administrative support to one or more attorneys with various tasks. Will primarily work in the area of collections. Tasks will include communicating with clients, preparing, drafting, reviewing and editing collection demand letters, preparing, drafting, reviewing and filing pleadings. Organizing and maintaining files, attorney scheduling, calendar and tickler system and assisting other staff with overflow in other areas of law. Must have excellent customer service skills and be able to manage difficult or emotional situations. Job Requirements: An associates degree or certification in paralegal studies is preferred. At least two years legal assistant or legal secretary experience. A combination of experience and education will be considered. Must be familiar with law, legal procedures and protocals, court systems and day to day operations of a law office required. Experience in collections, estate planning, estates and/or business organizations preferred. Must be detail oriented, highly organized, self motivated and have proficiency in MS Office, experience with PACER and Eflex and court filings preferred. Prefer someone that is a Notary Public.
