Lawrence High School company history timeline

1891

The Lawrence Union Free School District 15 was officially established on January 24, 1891.

1893

In 1893 the Frost Lane Schoolhouse was sold, and the first Lawrence High School, housing both high school and elementary grades, was built on Central Avenue.

1898

The district celebrated its very first commencement in 1898 with all of two students taking center stage as graduates.

1906

The district celebrated its very first commencement in 1898 with all of two students taking center stage as graduates. It gained its first superintendent in 1906.

1908

As the students outgrew their building, the Manual Training School was opened in 1908 as an addition.

1913

Torn down in 1913, a new Lawrence High School was built.

1915

Like McAllaster, Cordley School was built in 1915.

1922

Also in 1922, a wing was added to the high school, giving it 16 academic classes and six vocational ones.

1923

The student population would continue to grow, forcing Lawrence to build the Liberty Memorial High School building at 14th and Massachusetts in 1923.

1931

St Lawrence Catholic School was established in 1931-32.

1953

The school year of 1953-54 marked the opening of the senior high school.

1955

The next major expansion took place in 1955 when Number Six School was built.

1997

In 1997, Lawrence Free State High School was built to provide even more space for Lawrence's growing population.

The school began an expansion program in 1997.
