Job Description
We have multiple openings for undergraduate students to engage in practical research experience in quantum information science to further their educational goals. Opportunities include participation in projects lead by the LLNL scientists in this research area, including: Superconducting Qubits; Quantum Sensing; Ion Trap Design and Testing; Optical Entangled Sources; and Noise Characterization. The Livermore Center for Quantum Science is a virtual department at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory that connects the researchers and resources that comprise LLNL's vibrant quantum information science community with worldwide experts. Summer positions are three-month appointments in the May-September timeframe with the possibility of extension. Applications are due on January 11, 2026.

You will
Learn how scientists perform research in quantum computing and/or quantum sensing using experimental, theoretical and computational tools.
Meet Livermore scientists who do active work related to quantum information science.
Gather and analyze data or information relevant to your assigned research area as directed by supervisor and/or mentor to advance your education.
Gain hands-on experience in your assigned research area by using various simulation, data analysis or experimental techniques under close supervision.
Present your work through presentations and/or poster sessions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). See Additional Information section below for details.
Must be a continuing student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing an undergraduate degree in Physics, Engineering or related field.
Ability to apply basic physics principles to solve technical problems.
Demonstrated effective communication skills.
Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas.
Experience working with personal computers and familiarity with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Qualifications We Desire
GPA of 3.0 or above.
Experience with basic programming, such as python, C++, Julia or Labview

Job Description
We have an opening for an Undergraduate Student in the Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) Directorate. You will work under the direction of the ES&H Directorate to complete a project, or series of projects, that combine hands-on experience with technical knowledge. You will

Job Description
We have multiple openings for graduate students and for students who have received their Bachelor's or Master's degree, to engage in practical research experience to further their educational goals. You will conduct research in the fields such as nuclear physics, radiation transport, hydrodynamics, astrophysics, plasma dynamics, numerical methods and computer science. Research projects combine theory with computation and are geared to further the students' educational goals. This position is in the Strategic Deterrence Directorate.
Depending on your assignment, this position may offer a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You may have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.
You will
Develop and/or employ high performance scientific software to complete novel research tasks.
Work with mentors under limited supervision on your assigned project.
Present an oral presentation of each project at the end of the summer.
Present your work at a poster session.
Work on projects of greater complexity and given more freedom and responsibility to come up with fundamental solutions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be currently enrolled in an accredited university and actively pursuing a graduate degree or completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree with a focus in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field.
Must have experience applying basic principles of physics, engineering and/or computer science to solve technical problems.
Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
Math, Physics and Engineering majors should intend to complete a Ph.D.
Students should have a track record of achievement in their field of study.
Qualifications We Desire
Coding experience (e.g., Python, C++).
GPA of 3.5 or above.

Job Description
We have multiple openings for undergraduate students to join the Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Summer Institute (CSI) and to work on topics related to cybersecurity that align with LLNL's national security missions. The 2026 CSI program will run during the summer with a range of start dates between May 18, 2026, and June 22, 2026 and flexible end dates through September 25, 2026. CSI is designed to provide selected candidates an opportunity to apply their skills to projects in areas of national importance such as the development and implementation of cybersecurity tools and capabilities to mitigate advanced threats and the cybersecurity of civilian and defense critical infrastructure. The program will include opportunities to participate in professional and technical development activities with lab Subject Matter Experts, network with fellow interns and lab employees, and learn about the breadth of LLNL's support to US national security.
In this role, you will
Provide technical and/or research support to projects in the areas of cybersecurity, critical infrastructure, and other related fields working with scientists, engineers, and technical staff members.
Participate in research under close supervision in one or more of the following areas, as assigned:
Network/protocol analysis
Intrusion detection
Reverse engineering
Incident response
Malware analysis
Systems programming
Threat, risk, and/or attack characterization and analysis
Operational Technology/Industrial Control Systems cybersecurity
Software tool development
Artificial intelligence/machine learning

Qualifications

Job Description
We have multiple openings for graduate students to join the Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Summer Institute (CSI) and to work on topics related to cybersecurity that align with LLNL's national security missions. The 2026 CSI program will run during the summer with a range of start dates between May 18, 2026, and June 22, 2026, and flexible end dates through September 25, 2026. In this role, you will

You will

Physical Sciences Laboratories (PSL) supports the effective and timely development and operation of national security systems through scientific research and the application of advanced technologies. PSL has more than 150 specialized laboratories used to test, analyze, and troubleshoot virtually every aspect of rocket and satellite system design, development, construction, deployment, and operation. The expertise of the laboratories' technical staff allows PSL to stay abreast of new technological developments and program support issues associated with rapidly evolving space systems.
The Atomic Clocks & Device Physics Section in PSL is involved in a broad range of both basic and applied precise-timekeeping activities: from Monte Carlo simulations of space-timekeeping architectures to the development of next-generation space clocks, from engineering studies of low-temperature inductively-coupled-plasmas for atomic signal generation to basic physics experiments elucidating processes affecting next-generation space-clock performance. The successful applicant can expect to work closely with atomic clock scientists investigating these issues, and can expect to work somewhat independently helping to move the efforts forward.

Physical Sciences Laboratories (PSL) supports the effective and timely development and operation of national security systems through scientific research and the application of advanced technologies. PSL has more than 150 specialized laboratories used to test, analyze, and troubleshoot virtually every aspect of rocket and satellite system design, development, construction, deployment, and operation. The expertise of the laboratories' technical staff allows PSL to stay abreast of new technological developments and program support issues associated with rapidly evolving space systems.
The Electric Propulsion & Plasma Science section focuses on experimentally studying electric propulsion and other low-temperature plasma space technologies. This includes performing experiments to resolve flight anomalies, as well as characterizing commercial EP devices using our extensive plasma physics expertise. With a range of test facilities at our disposal, including our world-class EP3 chamber, we are equipped to study not only low-power devices like electrosprays but also high-power (>10 kW) systems. In support of flight programs, the section also investigates other plasma-adjacent phenomena like electrostatic discharge (ESD), sputtering, multipactor breakdown, and other forms of plasma-material interaction.
The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility in El Segundo, CA.
What You'll Be Doing
* Project work will include research on electric propulsion systems and the development of diagnostics and facilities for their characterization. Work may also include performing tests on radio frequency (rf) and microwave hardware.
* Successful candidate will also investigate basic physics of plasmas and plasma devices.
* Participates with an interdisciplinary team in ongoing research or technical programs with academic collaboration partners
* Applies standard techniques and procedures to carry out a series of prescribed scientific and/or engineering tasks
* Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed
* Training and mentorship will be provided

Job Description
We have multiple openings for graduate students and for students who have received a bachelor's or master's degree to engage in practical research experience to further their educational goals. You will conduct research in the following scientific fields: organic/inorganic synthesis, analytical, computational, materials characterization, actinide materials, optical materials science; electrochemistry; materials chemistry and physics; computational chemistry and materials science; nanoscale materials synthesis and characterization and metallurgy. These positions are in Materials Science Division in the Materials and Chemistry Institute.
You will
Work with scientists on projects involving hands-on work in a laboratory, computation, or data analysis.
Conduct research in assigned area, under limited direction and supervision.
Perform technical assignments of a basic degree of complexity and providing advanced technical support to scientist in scientific research and development projects.
Present work through presentations and/or poster sessions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). See Additional Information section below for details.
Must be a continuing college or university student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing a graduate degree or a recent graduate with a bachelor's or master's degree in chemistry, materials sciences, computational chemistry, or a related field.
Demonstrated academic achievement in chemistry, materials sciences, computational chemistry, or related field.
Experience applying basic scientific principles to solve technical problems.
Demonstrated effective communication skills.
Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas.
