I liked working at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory because it was a really supportive environment. It was research was heavy - you're doing work, but it has a grad school feel where everyone is still interested in learning. For lunch, we either went out as a group or ate outside - got food from the cafeteria and ate outside together.
Some of the perks were the support mechanisms that they had place and learning opportunities like speakers would come to the site. And I liked how they had a lot of stuff on site - not quite the startup level of stuff, but still great. For example, counselors on site or a message therapist. Not everything was free, but it was easily accessible. They also had a gym, music groups, and other outside activities like Ultimate Frisbee.
The work is fulfilling and rewarding.
