General Job Information This position is located in the Department of General Services (DGS), Office of the General Counsel. The mission of DGS is to provide cost-effective centralized facilities management services and support to the District Government through building operations and real estate management. DGS also manages the capital improvement and construction program for the District Government. The office of General Counsel is responsible for conducting all of the legal business of DGS.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Attorney Advisor will be primarily responsible for drafting, negotiating and reviewing lease agreements and purchase and sale real estate contracts.
The incumbent provides litigation support in all pending Agency litigation, except for labor matters and matters described in DC Code § 1-617.09(b). Coordinates Agency responses to pending litigation in conjunction with the Office of the Attorney General and assists the litigators to formulate litigation strategy. Serves along with other attorneys as clearing house for all legal matters involving the Agency, except for labor matters and matters described in DC Code § 1-617.09(b). Writes and reviews various agreements between the DGS and other District agencies and/or private individuals and organizations to assure conformance with District regulations. As required furnishes advice and guidance in connection with numerous and complex legal questions arising during daily operations of the Agency.
Education and Qualifications
Must have at least two (2) years of post J.D. professional attorney experience.
Additionally, the successful candidate must have a law degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school and one (1) year of specialized experience in real estate, contracts, transactions and/or drafting related documents at or equivalent to the LA-12 grade level in the District of Columbia Government Service.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, the incumbent must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.
Licensures and Certifications
The successful candidate must be an active member in good standing of the Bar of the District of Columbia or have the ability to waive in and be admitted within 360 days of appointment. If not an active member in good standing at the time of application, prior to appointment, the successful candidate must submit proof of their submitted application to the Bar of the District of Columbia.

Work is in a controlled environment and involves some exposure to moderate risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions.
