Job Purpose
This role will provide comprehensive and proactive legal support to Deutsche Post DHL business units in the U.S. (DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding (including Hillebrand Gori), DHL Supply Chain, and DHL Global Mail) as well as business units who import into or have legal issues arising in the United States (i.e., Post & Parcel Germany), having specific responsibility for Regulatory affairs as well as for any major or special projects assigned.
Your Tasks
Lead on advising DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding (including Hillebrand Gori), DHL E-Commerce Solutions, DHL Supply Chain, & Post & Parcel Germany on international trade laws and other regulatory matters where there is a US nexus (e.g., U.S. tariff policy, U.S. import laws, FMC, TSA, DOT, data protection, cybersecurity, AML, U.S. Government contracting requirements, and other regulatory matters).
Lead on engaging senior management, including senior executives (i.e., regional, divisional, global, and group-wide executives) and DHL Group Boards on risks and requisite remedies or solutions in the above described areas.
Lead attorney on DHL Group's Global Customs Committee, chaired by the Global Customs Office (GCO), and including Global Divisional Customs Compliance Officers for all divisions, and Global Divisional leads. Lead discussions within the committee on customs compliance issues and internal investigations where there is a US nexus.
Advise the Global Head of Customs for DHL Express, the Senior Vice President for Global Customs for DHL Global Forwarding, the Supply Chain Divisional Compliance Officer, the Vice President and Head of Customs and Trade Compliance for DHL E-commerce, and the Head of the GCO on best practices for US-related customs compliance.
Support the GCO in establishing corporate customs compliance structures in conjunction with the personnel identified above.
Support the GCO and Divisions in their implementation of the DHL Group Customs Compliance Manual and contribute to future revisions. Support the GCO in its oversight responsibilities and contribute to the development and drafting of customs-related guidance.
Support DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding (including Hillebrand Gori), DHL E-Commerce Solutions, DHL Supply Chain, & Post & Parcel Germany draft and implement their U.S. customs compliance strategies.
Monitor the U.S. customs teams to identify customs compliance issues or process failures and lead in the development and implementation of corrective action plans.
Advise senior executives across all divisions and with ITS at a global level on U.S. Government contracting requirements and develop plans with senior executive leadership to comply with those requirements.
Represent DHL business units before U.S. Customs & Border Protection, Homeland Security Investigations, TSA, the Bureau of Industry and Security, the Office of Foreign Assets Control, the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, U.S. Congress, and other U.S. agencies.
Identify and select outside counsel to advise on major investigations.
Advise the Group's Corporate Public Affairs on U.S. customs and other regulatory issues.
Advise DHL business units on internal investigations and voluntary disclosures concerning the regulatory areas listed above.
Represent DHL business units before customers and other commercial partners on regulatory matters and explain regulatory requirements imposed on the business unit.
Provide regular updates on all regulatory matters to leadership in the Legal Department in the Americas and globally.
Lead customs law issues in the Americas region by advising other members of the Legal Department on customs laws and best practices in conducting internal investigations and responding to penalty actions surrounding customs issues and driving customs compliance agendas throughout the region.
Maintain relationships with government authorities to forecast vulnerable areas for DHL and also monitor new legal and regulatory developments in the trade and other regulatory areas to translate and forecast for the business units.
Interact with the rest of the Legal Department in the region to support and advise other generalists on trade law and regulatory matters including contracts, customer issues, inquiries, etc.
Advise the business partners on TSA, BATF and other regulatory matters as assigned, and work to mitigate CBP and TSA penalties.
Manage U.S. Government audits, including site visits inside and outside of the United States.
Your Profile
B.A. (from an accredited college or university).
J.D. (from an accredited law school) plus 10+ years' experience in a corporate legal environment
Expertise in CBP regulations with knowledge or willingness to learn TSA, BATF regulations.
Knowledge or willingness to learn trade laws of key markets in the Americas (e.g., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, etc.).
Experience managing or contributing to internal investigations on trade or regulatory compliance violations including the development and administration of compliance metrics.
Experience dealing with DOJ and FISA subpoena inquiries.
Prior government experience a plus but not required.

Job Summary
The Conflicts Attorney is responsible for daily review and analysis of conflicts and other issues related to firm acceptance of new clients, new matters and lateral attorneys, and interface with the senior members of the Conflicts Department and possibly the General Counsel's Office regarding approval of new matter and lateral attorney hiring requests. The Conflicts Attorney will handle additional assignments from the General Counsel's Office and firm administration, as needed.
Job Responsibilities
Analyzes conflict of interest reports for all new firm representations and lateral attorney hires to identify potential conflict problems.
Resolves conflict of interest issues (to include obtaining necessary waivers and drafting ethics wall memos) related to the firm's clearance of new clients, new matters and lateral attorneys.
Analyzes information provided with new matter requests for compliance with firm policies and applicable rules of professional responsibility, and reviews and edits draft engagement letters for compliance with same.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Alston & Bird LLP is seeking an Attorney Hiring Manager for its Washington, DC and Dallas offices. This individual will work closely with the Director of Attorney Hiring and will have primary responsibility for the management, implementation, and daily function of recruitment for entry-level attorneys, non-partner lateral attorneys, and senior policy advisors, as well as the law student hiring process, on-campus engagement, and the summer associate program for the Washington, DC and Dallas offices. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Serves as a strategic partner in the planning and implementation of summer program recruiting, entry-level hiring, and non-partner lateral attorney and senior policy advisor hiring.
Takes a participatory role in the strategic growth of the Washington, DC and Dallas offices, including working closely with the Hiring Partner and Partner-in-Charge of each office, building relationships with outside legal search firms, and staying abreast of market conditions and trends.
Maintains relationships with outside vendors, search consultants, candidates, law school placement offices, and peers.
Collaborates with Hiring Partners to facilitate the Washington, DC and Dallas Hiring Committees.
Serves as a member of the Washington, DC and Dallas Diversity & Inclusion Committees and works to both demonstrate and support the firm's commitment to its core values of diversity and inclusion.
Participates in departmental reporting to the Associates Committee.
Manages the Attorney Hiring budget for the Washington, DC and Dallas offices.
Serves as a member of the Firm's Executive Staff.
Manages and mentors the Senior Attorney Hiring Coordinator for Washington, DC and Dallas.
Serves as a member of the Washington Area Legal Recruitment Administrators Association (WALRAA).
Serves as a member of the National Association for Law Placement (NALP).
Travel required: Visit Dallas office at least once per quarter - and more often during the Summer Associate Program; attend law student and on-campus engagement events as needed; travel to Atlanta at least once per year; attend biennial Executive Staff retreat.
Works on firmwide departmental projects as needed.
Other duties as requested by the Director of Attorney Hiring and Hiring Partners.

Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree and 5-10 years of experience with in-house attorney recruitment, including proven leadership within an Attorney Hiring Team or similar function.
The salary range for this position is $140,000 to $160,000 and represents the Firm's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at this time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, and locations. This range is specific to our Washington DC office and may not be applicable to other locations.
