Job Description:
The Compliance Attorney coordinates the Firm's identification of and compliance with various legal, regulatory, and contractual duties. The Compliance Attorney works under minimal supervision and relies on detailed instructions to plan and accomplish goals.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
* Collect, organize, and store Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCGs) and engagement terms
* Research and provide guidance regarding Market Abuse Regulations
* Collaborate with practice areas and firm departments (marketing, IT) to provide specific information requested and adhere compliance feasibility with client's OCGs and engagement terms
* Help keep firm attorneys and staff apprised of their specific roles and responsibilities under existing OCGs and engagement terms
* Identity new matters involving Personal Health Information (PHI) and verify execution of Business Associate Agreements
* Maintain database of OCGs to keep track of and enable internal compliance with various provisions (e.g. AI, Privacy)
* Liaise directly with external firm clients in the negotiation of OCGs
* Work closely with the Deputy General Counsels
Job Specifications:
* Juris Doctorate (JD)
* Licensed in Illinois or California
* At least one (1) year of related work experience
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word)

GS-11 Qualifications: Assignments require the first professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) and active membership in the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia. In addition, one of the following requirements must be satisfied:
1. One year of professional legal experience.
2. The second professional law degree (Master of Laws (LL.M.)) provided it required 1 full academic year of graduate study.

b. Work or achievement of significance on one of the attorney's law school's official law reviews or journals.

In addition, the attorney shall have professional legal experience in excess of 2 years that is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Qualifications
Education and/or Work Experience
* 7-10+ years of legal experience working as a patent attorney, at a law firm and/or corporate setting. Must have substantial experience with patent preparation and prosecution and with freedom-to-operate or product clearance, preferably for medical device products. Must have experience navigating U.S. and foreign patent practices.
