The Pipelayer will perform a wide range of physical tasks in support of workers on the job site.
Duties/Responsibilities:

Works with a team
Assists skilled workers as assigned by leads and help push the crews in leads absence
Knowledge of waterline, storm and sanitary pipe installation
Structure punch- out with proper channels, casting setting and parging
Waterline, storm, sanitary testing
Equipment setup of pipe laser, rotary laser and line instrument
Participates in Planning and Coordinating
Loads and unloads materials and distributes as identified by supervisor, project plans, or specifications
Cleans and prepares tool up to an including greasing and general maintenance
Cleans jobsite at the end of the day, ensuring trash is properly disposed of and material or equipment is properly stored
Operates a wide variety of hand and power tools
Sets Safety example by following safety guidelines at all times and complies with proper safety procedures and PPE
Performs all other related duties as assigned/needed
Required Skills/Abilities:
Ability to listen to, understand, and follow directions
Ability to effectively communicate and problem solve
Ability to remain flexible in job hours worked as specific assignments change
Ability to work with a variety of personalities and treat everyone with respect
Ability to perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)
Ability to understand blueprints and calculate run, rise, percentage, GPS, as-builds, etc.
Ability to read a tape measure
Willing to learn, develop, and receive training
Proper rigging practices
Ability to read cut sheets, grade stakes and GPS station
Education and Experience:
8-10 year utilities experience
Valid driver's license or State ID
Equipment certifications for skid steers or forklifts (Thompson will train if necessary)
CPR and First Aid (Thompson will train if necessary)
10-hour OSHA certification Thom(Thomo

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to traverse different types of worksites and bend, climb, stretch, and reach
Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push/pull 50-pound loads at a time
Must be able to work in a variety of environments including but not limited to concrete, dirt, fumes, and loud noise levels
Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day and climb multiple sets of stairs
Must be able to work long hours and Saturdays when needed
Must be able to work at various heights

Pipe Layer Job Description Summary: Perform tasks involving physical labor at heavy construction projects. Physical fitness is an important part of the job and usually is a requirement for anyone who wants to become a pipe layer. Upper-body strength and flexibility is very important because of the nature of this job. Blueprint reading is an important skill for anyone who wants to become a pipe layer. These diagrams provide a wealth of information regarding the placement of the pipes as well as the location of electrical power lines and other utilities. Manual dexterity is needed and includes the ability to work with pipes and tools that can range in size from very small to quite large. This type of skill is developed through practice, dedication, and physical effort.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Checks slopes/grades for conformation to requirements, using levels or lasers.
Understand bedding and backfill.
Understand pipe laying techniques.
Cut pipes to required lengths.
Install and repair sanitary and storm water sewer structures and pipe systems.
Install and use instruments such as lasers, grade rods, and transit levels.
Grade and level trench bottoms, using hand tools.
Prepare pipe spans, following instructions or blueprints, and construction staking.
Work as a member of a team with pipe laying equipment.
Safety - trench safety, materials, equipment, hand signals, small tools safety
Small Tools - use of shovel, chop saw, transit levels, laser, measuring tape, stick rule, cable (rigging), pumps, chains, pipes, gravel, structures.
Laying pipe routes- the process from beginning to end
Existing utilities - blue print reading

Skills/Qualifications:
At least one year experience in underground utilities including water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer.
Ability to read and interpret maps, sketches, drawings, specifications, and technical manuals.
Understands and follows oral and written instructions.
Works independently in the absence of supervision.
The ability to work 55 - 60 hours a week including Saturdays.
