The Department of Physics at Le Moyne College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin August 2026. We seek candidates in applied physics with expertise in semiconductor materials, devices, or electronics who are committed to undergraduate teaching excellence and maintaining a productive research program at a comprehensive liberal arts institution.
This position will be part of Le Moyne's newly proposed Applied Physics program with a concentration in Semiconductors, designed to prepare students for careers in the rapidly growing semiconductor and electronics industries. The successful candidate will teach courses including Electronic Materials, Semiconductor Devices, and other Electronics courses, as well as introductory and intermediate physics courses. They will also develop and maintain laboratory courses and hands-on electronics experiences that provide students with skills directly applicable to the semiconductor industry.
The candidate will have opportunities to engage in applied research involving semiconductors, electronic materials, and device characterization, including collaborations with regional industry partners and undergraduate student researchers. Expectations include teaching 3 courses per semester (9 credit hours), mentoring undergraduate research, contributing to curriculum development, and providing service within and beyond the College. Le Moyne College offers strong support for undergraduate and faculty research, including internal funding and laboratory resources for applied projects.
The newly proposed Applied Physics program is subject to approval by the New York State Department of Education.
Requirements:
Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, Semiconductor Related Field, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field by the position start date.
Evidence of undergraduate teaching excellence.
