What you'll be doing:
We are seeking a Chief Architect to join our Oddball labs team to lead our technical vision, set architecture standards, and ensure Oddball delivers scalable, reliable, and future-proof systems. This is a senior technical leadership position for someone who picks the best tool for the job, hands-on when needed, and also has experience with AI/ML enough to know when it makes sense to use it.
This is a highly visible, hands-on role where you'll define Oddball lab's technical vision, support growth and sales efforts, implement ideas through agile experimentation and delivery cycles.
What you'll bring:
7+ years of experience in software engineering / systems architecture / technical leadership roles.
Experience in deploying application to production environments
Strong experience across multiple technologies (polyglot): cloud platforms (e.g., AWS / Azure / GCP), containerization, microservices, distributed systems.
Hands-on experience or practical knowledge in AI/ML: recognizing when to employ these tools and integrating them into systems.
Deep understanding of architecture concerns: performance, scalability, security, reliability, observability.
Experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and deployment pipelines.
Excellent communication skills - able to explain architectural trade-offs to engineers, product stakeholders, sometimes leadership.
Experience leading engineers and helping raise technical maturity.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions in ambiguous or rapidly changing situations.
Performs other related duties as assigned
Bonus if you have:
Certifications or background in architecture frameworks (TOGAF, etc.).
Experience working with vendor partners/CSP (AWS, GCP, Azure, Anthropic, OpenAI)
Prior experience in startups or fast-moving environments where you build and iterate quickly.
Experience designing systems that incorporate both AI/ML and non-ML components.
Prior experience working with Government, either contractor or federal.
Location: Candidates located in the DMV area (DC, Maryland, Virginia) are strongly preferred due to occasional in-person collaboration opportunities.

Nursing Systems Architect
The Michigan State University College of Nursing Systems Architect will design, implement, analyze, interpret, and validate Nursing data reports to make recommendations to the College of Nursing administration on short- and long-term planning and decision-making. Additionally, this position will develop, maintain, manage, and use databases and various systems composed of a variety of data types and formats; engage in data cleaning and processing; develop metadata; implement data analysis, data collection systems, and other strategies to increase statistical efficiency and data quality and implement data visualizations to assist with the dissemination of knowledge.
Responsibilities also include assisting with the development of inclusive long- and short-range strategic plans to track and trend the College of Nursing educational, research, and clinical performance on several different metrics; provide integration of new and existing systems and identify software, hardware, or other equipment problems and solutions; ability to apply a high degree of competence, knowledge, cultural awareness, and creativity to resolving major systems-level problems and generate innovative technology-driven solutions; collaborate with other college units in the selection and set-up of technological applications suitable to their needs and assigned workflow; participate with the information technology colleagues to empower equitable interventions, analysis, recommendation, preparation, and implementation of hardware, operating systems, and networks as well as adhere to project implementation and reporting deadlines.
Specifically, this position will create and use queries for data retrieval and compilation and create data reports and visualizations with tools like Tableau, Power BI, and Excel; employ coding skills to automate processes and clean data, while also constructing data pipelines to ensure consistent data reporting; interact with IT colleagues for consulting on security measures concerning data governed by FERPA and university regulations, ensuring compliance and safeguarding sensitive information as well as interact with various stakeholders within and outside of the college to gather understanding and buy-in for project needs and deliver results in a secure manner.
This is a remote work position with the expectation that the selected candidate will be required to be on site at select times during the year.
