Manages a portfolio of problem credit relationships and executing a \"stay\" or \"leave\" risk strategy with a goal of minimizing credit loss exposure. Relationships managed by a Field Risk Officer have not deteriorated to the point of requiring litigation or liquidation.
Reporting as a member of a team assigned in the Business Banking's Special Credits Group (SCG) the FRO will focus on the structural and behavioral aspects of the credit. Relationships assigned may experience declining financial trends together with other complex issues, which will require a comprehensive analysis and creative solution. Success as a FRO is reliant on a broad knowledge of finance, accounting and credit analysis. A separate team within SCG is in place to manage credits involving litigation, liquidation of assets, SBA repurchase, bankruptcy, death of guarantor/owner, on non-accrual status, or similar type issues.
Proactively monitors and may consult on select marginal pass rated credits managed by BRMs that have been identified as high-risk borrowers through portfolio reviews with BRM teams, or individual credit reviews by the BLC and/or Risk Management.
Reviews existing loan documentation to correct any errors and omissions and evaluates client's financial strength and capacity to repay outstanding debt. Ensures collateral lien is perfected and determines current collateral value.
Develops appropriate strategy and timeline for exit/action; including payoff, note sale nomination, exposure reduction, or plan of action to protect and improve the bank's position. Negotiates a satisfactory restructure of the credit facilities and obtains additional collateral and/or guarantees as needed. Meets with borrowers as appropriate to actively manage the relationship and communicate expectations. Leverages the knowledge and expertise to other Risk Management partners as appropriate.
Documents all contacts, agreements and discussions with the client in PMCS. Completes monthly status reports and quarterly problem loan updates for managed relationships, and other reporting as needed to management in Risk and Sales according to Firm-wide policy and Business Banking Risk Requirements.
Skills & Experience:
5+years of traditional underwriting experience, proven experience in identifying & restructuring problem loans, and experienced in managing customer relationships including deposit risk issues. Formally credit trained or equivalent experience, and workout experience preferred. Working knowledge of Chase's credit philosophy, firm-wide policies, Business Banking Risk Requirements, collateral perfection, and loan documentation.
