SUMMARY: Sets up and operates various presses to produce a variety of wax or synthetic patterns by injection or extrusion methods, used for the forming of ceramic molds; receives instructions and assignments from the Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
* Obtains specification sheets and sets up injection press by adjusting stops, pressures, temperatures to produce wax or synthetic patterns by placing metal die in injection press, and activating controls of press to clamp die in position and to inject pattern material into die cavity. Cleans, lubricates and assembles metal cavity die. Places inserts of wax, plastic, ceramic or other materials into die as required. Positions die into press and activates press to form pattern or component. At end of specified time cycle, removes wax or synthetic pattern from die, visually inspects pattern for voids or other defects, breaks or cuts flash or die lines from pattern by using knife to trim and dress completed part and a metal stamp to identify part, as required. Sprays lubricant in die cavity, assembles die and components for injection of next pattern.
* Sets up and checks operation of presses for production of wax or synthetic patterns using liquid wax injection, hollow wax injection, or billet paste wax extrusion methods and techniques. Aligns sections of die when attached to platten and ram, shuttle, or shuttle and platten and secures in position as necessary. Reports unusual conditions or press operation to the supervisor. Correct faulty conditions by changing pressures, and/or time cycles as directed by the Supervisor, or by changing temperatures and speed of wax flow, keeping within established ranges.
* Obtains or asides dies, wax, dry ice, curing fixtures, and other materials and supplies for own use, as required for production of patterns. Obtains cart for receipt of completed patterns and moves cart to and from work and storage areas when loaded.
* Operates a variety of material handling devices such as air bolster plates, electric or hydraulic power lifts, overhead hoists, etc., for procurement of materials or for handling of dies or other components involved in setup and production.
* Keeps work area clean and orderly, and performs other duties related to the job as directed by the Supervisor.
