As the Lead Scientist of Cell Culture Media Development at Mission Barns, you will be building and coordinating a team of scientists and research associates to formulate and optimize our proprietary, animal-component-free cell culture media compositions to support the proliferation and differentiation of unique cell populations. Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and expertise of cell culture media preparation, optimization methodologies, and compositional analysis, as well as team management skills. This role will be required to independently lead and deliver individual projects and manage direct reports' goals and schedule. You and your team will collaborate with colleagues across many functions within the company (Adipose Biology, Process Development, Biomaterials, etc.) to advance our mission. Title and responsibilities will be commensurate with experience.

ResponsibilitiesEstablishing and executing workflows to develop and optimize a variety of animal-component-free media to support all cell culture processes including proliferation and differentiation Applying chemical analysis techniques to evaluate fresh, spent, and in-process media formulations Implementing bioassays to analyze media and collect impactful metabolic data from our cell culture systems Identifying novel directions to expand media research and development Building and managing the cell culture media development team Aligning with senior leadership to implement critical decisions Providing expertise in media development and media optimization to other teams Conducting rigorous experimental design, documentation, and data analysis Concise and effective reporting and presentation of data Providing creative solutions and demonstrating critical thinking Leading and collaborating with team members to support all upstream and downstream process work
About YouPh.D in Biological Sciences/Engineering or 7+ years of Biological industry experience is required. Schedule: This position will allow for the majority of the work week to be remote based with an on site presence in Chantilly 1 day out of the week following initial training/onboarding.

As the Lead Scientist, you will act as the Study Director, Responsible Scientist, or Principle Investigator for non-regulated, GLP-regulated, and GCP-regulated bioanalysis studies. This is an office-based role, with no hands on lab work.

You will also:

• Serve as the primary point of contact for scientific & regulatory requirements, with responsibility for leading and directing scientific work to support client programs.

• Develop and review study protocols and sample analysis plans to achieve defined milestones along the drug development pathway.

• Review data alongside the method development team to ensure methods are ready for validation and approve validation & sample analysis methods.

• Review and approve reports for scientific accuracy and completeness.

• Actively collaborate with the bioanalysis team to ensure the clients’ studies are completed to the highest possible standard.

• Promote a positive impression of Covance internally and within the industry.

• Proactively identify ways to increase client satisfaction.

Principal Scientist, Biomarker Lead / Translational Scientist

POSITION OVERVIEW

We seek a highly creative and experienced biomarker lead to and translate these assays into clinical trials. In collaboration with the project teams, you will define the strategy for development of scientifically rigorous translational and exploratory biomarker strategies that enable patient selection and/or assess proof of mechanism, target engagement, exploratory signs of efficacy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• In collaboration with the project teams, define the strategy for development of scientifically rigorous translational and exploratory biomarker strategies that enable patient selection and/or assess proof of mechanism, target engagement, exploratory signs of efficacy
• Drive method development and method transfer of internally developed assays to external vendors to ensure compliance and high quality data. Partner with CROs to ensure successful transfer and validation for use in clinical trials
• Evaluate CROs for their ability to execute biomarker plans in the clinic
• Support clinical studies as a biomarker lead, overseeing work by CROs to ensure quality execution and analysis, including managing and monitoring sample collection and analysis, and coordinating data analysis, interpretation and reporting of results
• Support scientific input and review of all biomarker aspects of clinical and regulatory documents for early stage programs, including but not limited to study protocols

QUALIFICATIONS

• Requires an advanced degree (PhD, MD) in life sciences or related area with significant prior experience (7+ years) or Masters degree (with 12+ years experience) in biomarker strategy and assay implementation.
• Experience in PD biomarkers required, experience with patient selection biomarkers including CDx preferred
• Demonstrated success in collaborating with CROs
• Successful assay development for novel biomarkers and transfer to the clinic, including method development, method transfer and validation
• Demonstration of use of biomarkers in a clinical setting, translation from pre-clinical to clinical studies
• Demonstrated strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills. Must be self-aware, inspiring, and able to skillfully bring people together to accomplish ambitious goals.
