CIVIL SENIOR PRINCIPAL ENGINEER JOB SUMMARY
The Civil Senior Principal Engineer role is a leadership opportunity to grow and Cannon's Water Resources operations in Orange County. Reporting to the Director of Water Resources, this role will conduct and drive business development efforts with Orange County agencies and clients; oversee and manage a diverse portfolio of wastewater, water treatment, and other water resource projects; mentor engineers; and provide excellent client service and delivery.
CIVIL SENIOR PRINCIPAL ENGINEER JOB DUTIES
Responsible for securing new work by establishing and fostering client relations and developing proposals (scope, schedule, and fee estimates).
Develops and maintains strong relationships with ongoing clients and actively seeks to expand services to them.
Concurrently manages a variety of civil engineering Public Works-Water Resources projects.
Tracks project scope, budgets, and schedules to ensure fulfillment of contract commitments and profitability.
Primary interface with clients on project coordination and design and follow-up to ensure quality standards are met, efficiency levels are maintained, and client satisfaction, respect, and confidence are assured.
Effectively manages quality assurance and quality control.
Uses technical knowledge to prepare PSandE for water resources projects, including water, sewer, and storm drains (pipelines, pump stations, lift stations, storage reservoirs, etc.).
Grows, leads, and mentors an Orange County Water Resources team.
Directs and mentors project engineers and design engineers on technical matters and procedures and acts as a technical resource to staff.
Regularly engages in professional/community activities that promote the Cannon brand (writing, speaking, etc.).
Requirements: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.
Requires a minimum of 15 years' experience in Civil Engineering specifically pertaining to Public Works/Water Resources projects.
Requires minimum 8 years of project management experience pertaining to Public Works/Water Resources projects.
Requires a California P.E. license.
Working knowledge of typical computer software programs used in civil engineering design (AutoCAD, Civil3D, Hydrology and Hydraulic, AES, WSPG, Flowmaster, etc.)
Must be proficient with MS Office Suite.
A proven track record and strong desire to provide superior client service and delivery.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver on time within budget.
Experience in staff management, mentoring and resource management a plus.

What you'll do:
This position is for a Modeling and Simulation Specialist (Analysis) role supporting research and new product development in Eaton's Mission Systems Division (MSD). The Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Engineer is responsible for the development of high fidelity thermal and structural analyses that support product life cycle development for MSD. The candidate will provide technical oversight and guidance to other M&S engineers based in US and in Global Teams as well as serve as an individual contributor. The product are mostly thermal fluid and dynamic mechanical systems that support aerospace applications. These aerospace applications are diverse and include space life support and propulsion, aircraft oxygen and refueling, and weapons storage and release systems. The M&S engineer should have direct technical experience using high fidelity analysis methods including Finite Element, Finite Difference, and Computation Fluid Dynamics to support both structural and thermal analysis of systems throughout the product life cycle. Similarly, the candidate should have experience model correlation and validation as well as using M&S to compliment test plans and program level risk mitigation. Other critical skills include technical leadership, project execution, and a system engineering approach to problem solving.
* Develop high fidelity structural analysis using NASTRAN and ANSYS MECHANICAL

Lead packaging qualification and validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) for launch and commercial readiness.

Job Description
Sets discipline strategy in alignment with functional goals and key engineer objectives. Scopes new and emerging technologies or insights to drive innovation strategy. Independently conceives, plans, designs and conducts research on new equipment and technologies for nutritional products. Sets direction to achieve project goals. Applies advanced scientific knowledge to projects and shares capability across functions. Proactively advices and shares inputs on new technologies and platforms to influence innovation. Acts as a mentor to junior staff.
Interacts with suppliers, trade organizations, research organizations and potentially universities and government agencies seeking new innovative solutions and technologies to address complex packaging challenges. Provides technical direction and feedback to others, sharing knowledge throughout the organization. Reviews relevant technical literature and patent landscape. Proactively works to secure new intellectual property and identifies white space opportunities.
The Senior Engineer R&D will be responsible for conducting research and establishing feasibility of new technologies. Develops new innovative system designs and process enhancements for next generation of nutritional products at our company for consumer and hospital use. The Senior / Principal Engineer will translate insights into system designs / concepts on paper and develop working prototypes, proactively identifies and works to secure new intellectual property and works within a cross functional team environment interacting with key internal and external stakeholders. The Senior Engineer R&D will provide direction and leadership to suppliers & partners, ensures that projects are executed on time and within budget and balances risks with speed to market.
Organizes and conducts DOEs including product-packaging compatibility testing and works cross-functionally to validate designs and materials. Monitors, organizes, and interprets test results. Draws conclusions, makes adjustments, suggests direction for, and implements improvements to systems. Recognizes problems and initiates corrective actions. Communicates technical results to project teams. Writes summary reports on technical findings, when applicable.
Skills / Requirements
Strong background in Science and Engineering with approximately 5-10 years of experience developing & commercializing new products / devices / appliances for home, office or hospital environments. Candidate must possess a thorough understanding of practices involved in concept creation and development through production is required. Individual must have expertise in mechanical design, system & process design, process control, electrical / electronics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer / thermodynamics and manufacturing technologies / assemblies. Candidate should have working knowledge of plastics, water quality & filtration systems as well as general hygiene requirements for food and beverage applications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate full relevance of scientific observations and to produce documents and reports. Strong organizational skills.
Basic and some advanced computer skills (includes word processing, spreadsheets, instrumentation related to our company network systems and advanced technical software)
Team oriented, with high energy and desire to achieve results. Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and meet business goals.
Ability to generate and translate innovative concepts into technically feasible and consumer-relevant products.
Education
B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or related scientific field.

**About the Role**
As a Senior Principal Data Engineer within the Enterprise Data & Analytics Office, you will lead the design, evolution, and operational excellence of Nexus, UKG's unified, GCP-based data platform, enabling analytics, AI, and enterprise decision-making at scale.
You will translate architectural vision into reliable, scalable, cost-efficient data systems, lead platform modernization efforts, and set the engineering bar for data ingestion, transformation, and operational analytics across UKG.
**Key Responsibilities:**
Enterprise Data EngineeringLeadership
- Drive the implementation of standardized medallion architecture (Bronze-Silver-Gold) across all domains.
- Establish and enforce engineering patterns for batch, streaming, CDC, and event-driven pipelines.
- Drive design patterns for Fact and Dimension modeling, data mesh, and change data capture (CDC).
Platform & Pipeline Excellence
- Design and evolve scalable data pipelines using GCP-native services (BigQuery, GCS, Composer, Pub/Sub, Dataflow) and Databricks (Delta Lake, DLT).
- Ensure platform reliability, performance, and scalability for petabyte-scale analytics workloads.
- Leadengineering decisions around partitioning, clustering, query optimization, and cost controls (FinOps).
- Own observability standards (freshness, SLAs, error handling, monitoring).
Engineering Standards, Quality & Governance
- Define and enforce engineering standards for data quality, testing, CI/CD, and production readiness.
- Implement automated data quality frameworks, lineage, and metadata integration in partnership with Data Governance and Architecture teams.
- Ensure all pipelines meet SOX, security, and auditability requirements.
- Partner with Architects to ensure engineering implementations align to enterprise reference architectures.
Cross-Functional Delivery & Influence
- Partner with Product Managers, Product Owners, Architects, and Analytics leaders to deliver high-impact data capabilities.
- Act as the technical escalation point for complex production issues and platform risks.
- Influence roadmap decisions by balancing technical feasibility, delivery velocity, and long-term sustainability.
- Support ESE Agile delivery by enabling architecture runway and reducing technical blockers.
Mentorship & Organizational Impact
- Mentor Principal, Senior, and Mid-level Data Engineers, raising the overall engineering maturity of the organization.
- Lead by example through design reviews, code reviews, and engineering forums.
- Build reusable frameworks, libraries, and accelerators that scale engineering productivity.
- Foster a culture of ownership, quality, and continuous improvement.
**Basic Qualifications:**
- 15+ years of experience in data engineering, data platforms, or large-scale analytics systems.
- Proven leadership delivering enterprise-scale data platforms and migrations.
- Deep hands-on experience large (Petabyte) scale operating data platforms .
Technical Expertise
- GCP (required): BigQuery, GCS, Cloud Composer, Pub/Sub, Dataflow, Dataform, Dataproc, Dataplex
- Databricks: Delta Lake, Delta Live Tables, Spark, Unity Catalog
- Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, Spark, and distributed systems
- Expertise in data modeling, ELT patterns, CDC, and streaming architectures
- Experience supporting AI/ML pipelines, feature stores, and analytics consumption
- Strong understanding of Dimensional Modeling, ELT and modern data lakehouse patterns.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Proven ability to influence without authority across engineering, product, and architecture teams.
- Strong communication skills with both technical and executive audiences.
- Track record of mentoring senior engineers and leading complex initiatives.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- Experience modernizing legacy warehouses and ETL platforms.
- Familiarity with Data Mesh execution and domain-aligned data products.
- Experience implementing FinOps practices for analytics platforms.
- Exposure to AI/ML enablement, feature engineering, or agent-driven analytics.
- Google Cloud certifications (Data Engineer, Architect) preferred

The pay range for this position is $184,300.00 to $230,000 however, base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. This position is also eligible for a short-term incentive and a long-term incentive as part of total compensation.
