Completion, with passing grades, of 12 units in Child Development (CD) or related field. (Related fields can include: Arts, Early Childhood Education, Education, Humanities, Physical Education, Psychology, Recreation, Sociology, and Theater) Completion, with passing grades, of 6 units with 6 more units of current enrollment in Child Development or related field will be considered. Minimum of 6 months working in a child and youth development, education, or comparable setting preferred Basic computer skills and ability to speak, read, and write the English language. Additional languages are highly desirable Must have a sincere interest in working with children 5-12 years of age and the ability to relate to children and adults in a professional manner Criminal record clearance in accordance with YMCA and Community Care Licensing guidelines. Successfully pass a physical exam and provide negative TB test results within 7 days of hire. (TB test results need to be current within 1 year.) Must provide proof of measles (MMR), pertussis (TDap), and influenza immunizations within 7 days of hire. (TDap needs to be current within 10 years, MMR does not need to be renewed.) Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire, unless specified otherwise on contract, and must be from one of the following: American Red Cross American Heart Association American Safety & Health Institute YMCA will consider qualified applicants with a criminal history pursuant to the San Diego County Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act. You do not need to disclose your criminal history or participate in a background check until a conditional job offer is made to you. After making a conditional offer and running a background check, if the YMCA is concerned about conviction that is directly related to the job, you will be given the opportunity to explain the circumstances surrounding the conviction, provide mitigating evidence, or challenge the accuracy of the background report.
