The Elementary Teacher plans, organizes, and implements the instructional program in a Catholic environment where every child is recognized as a unique child of God. This position will serve as the 4th grade Homeroom Teacher, and will focus on teaching ELA and Math for grades 4 and 5.
Essential Functions
Develop lesson plans with clear objectives in line with the Archdiocesan guidelines.
Provide grade-appropriate engaging instruction and learning activities for school students that adheres to the school's philosophy, goals, and objectives.
Observes and assess student progress, keep detailed records, observe student behavior and progress, and communicate with parents.
Attend all faculty meetings, professional development days, and workshops.
Position Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Education
Current MSDE certification or ability to achieve required certification.
Basic understanding and acceptance of Catholic school philosophy, goals, and objectives.
Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn about the integration of technology into lessons.
Practicing Catholic preferred.

The online mentor works directly with students enrolled in high school online classes to provide face-to-face support and weekly monitoring. The online mentor assists students in time management and learning how to communicate regularly through digital platforms.

Demonstrate skill in online learning and the use of a variety of instructional strategies and techniques, including technology.
Demonstrate skill in organizational and time management strategies.
Demonstrate ability in written and oral communication.
Demonstrate ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office personnel, parents, and community members.
Demonstrate success in accomplishing tasks consistent with those responsibilities listed below.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages a caseload of up to six students.
Conducts weekly reviews of the online course calendar, assignments, and course statistics to monitor student progress.
Consults with students in person, through email or by phone at least once a week to monitor student progress and provide support.
Communicate and intervene on an escalating basis with school-based counselor and/or building administration when a student fails to make adequate progress.
Coordinate services for students as needed, including the securing of student assistance through contact with the course instructor via email or telephone, and/or facilitation of the contact of another teacher or student for tutoring.
Consult with parent/guardian as needed to report on student progress.
Complete a bi-weekly log that documents communication with the student, parent, and the online teacher.
Participate in an online professional learning community including discussion boards, best practices as an online mentor and support in navigating specific Learning Management Systems.
OTHER DUTIES: Perform related work as required or assigned by the school principal.
UNUSUAL DEMANDS: May be subject to a flexible work schedule.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience: Fluency in ASL and written English required. Knowledge of Deaf Community preferred. Experience in working with deaf and hard of hearing students desired. Knowledge of students with additional disabilities and ability to teach students on different levels and with varying educational background required. Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits.
