Be the Pharmacy Director You've Always Strived to Be
Convey the mission of the hospital and organization to pharmacy staff, holding them accountable for performance, while motivating them to enhance and develop their capabilities.
Oversee the pharmacy department's operations, including scheduling, continuous assessment, and the implementation of process improvements to optimize department performance.
Provide direct patient and pharmaceutical care.
Demonstrate and maintain competence in clinical health system pharmacy practices, including antimicrobial stewardship, non-sterile and sterile drug preparation, controlled substances, hospital pharmacy accreditation, anticoagulation drug therapy management, and medication safety.
Educate staff on pharmaceutical care and medication management, ensuring the pharmacy consistently complies with local, state, and national regulations.
Stay current with new medications, indications, and evidence-based medicine. Collaborate with the Controller to prepare and manage departmental budgets for staffing, drugs, and supplies.
Actively serve and lead various hospital committees, including Quality Assurance, Formulary, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, MEC, and Safety, as needed.

Qualifications
Licensed in good standing by the State Pharmacy Board for the state where the hospital is located.
Successful completion of a degree from an accredited pharmacy program or one recognized as substantially equivalent to a U.S. accredited program by an appropriate certifying agency.
A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
May be required to work weekdays and/or weekends, evenings and or night shifts.
May be required to work on religious and/or legal holidays on scheduled days/shifts.

The Staff Pharmacist maintains pharmaceutical inventory, reviews patient medication records, monitors for possible drug interactions and/or drug allergie,s and counsels patients as per OBRA 90 (Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990). Responsible for complying with all state and federal laws pertaining to the practice of pharmacy.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Staff Pharmacist performs the following duties as assigned:
· Interprets physician prescriptive orders.
· Verifies authenticity of orders.
· Supervises the teaching of the pharmacy tech and/or relief personnel concerning the proper procedures and handling of all pharmacy drugs.
· Maintains a training manual for the tech as required by state law.
· Assumes the overall responsibility for the rules established by GCHC including the pharmacy procedure manual and accountability records of the drugs used or dispensed from the facilities, as required by state statutes and Federal laws.
· Continually seeks to provide the highest quality of medications at the lowest price, by checking the prices of various vendors from the designated wholesaler.
· Provides a monthly report on the financial status of the pharmacy department which includes such items as how may prescriptions were filled by the clinic and average cost per prescription.
· Reviews the patients' medication record to identify; clinically significant drug interactions, therapeutic duplication, drug disease contraindications, drug allergy interactions, incorrect drug dosage or duration of drug treatment and clinical abuse and misuse.
· Maintains patient medication profiles and documents patients counseling on all new prescription.
· Maintains a counseling log.
· Provides literature and counseling to patients concerning their medication as per OBRA 90.
· Accurately fills and dispenses all prescription (directs the transcribing, typing, filling, labeling, checking and dispensing).
· Directs price changes of medication for computer input
· Maintains prescription records of all drugs dispensed.
· Assures that pharmacy is in compliance with all State and Federal regulations.
· Performs duties that contribute to ultimate quality patient care and safely.
· Consults with Medical Providers about questions concerning medications.
· Insures that a pharmacy procedure Manual is maintained and periodically reviewed that contains the rules and regulations for the system of control and distribution of drugs used and dispensed by the clinic.
· Provides information on new drugs to staff and Providers and acts as a liaison between drug company rep and the Center.
· Responsible for the security of the pharmacy.
· Maintains a file of Pharmacy Personnel in-service education.
· Supervises computer file levels and purge as necessary.
· Rotates and checks drugs periodically to insure medications are not expired.
· Disposes of all drugs that cannot be returned according to law.
· Returns controlled drugs to DEA for disposal or disposes of them according to DEA procedures.
· Performs drug inventory as required.
· Prepares reports concerning the dispensing of drugs an associated cost.
· Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Must be currently enrolled in a Doctor of Pharmacy program from an accredited College of Pharmacy. Two or more years' experience as a Registered Pharmacy Technician is preferred. Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet computer programs is preferred
