Duties and Responsibilities
* Transports passengers in a safe and timely manner while complying with local traffic regulations.
* Loads, secures, and unloadspassengers at stops; meets and greets passengers in a courteous manner.
* Assists customers by providing route information; collects fare; regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
* Maintains familiarity and compliance with ADA requirements; provides safe transport of disabled passengers by securing wheelchairs and escorting passengers to and from vehicle; monitors and ensures the safety of all passengers.
* Performs vehicle and equipment inspection including general maintenance and safety checks.
* Completes daily fare reconciliation, reports and paperwork.
* Performs related work as assigned.
Education, Experience, Licensing
Minimum Requirements
* Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED.
* Will be required to undergo a fingerprint-based background check in addition to the standard Consumer Report-based background check that is required for all conditional offers of employment.
Driver's License:
* Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
Safety-Sensitive Position:
* Transit Bus Drivers must be able to pass a Florida Department of Transportation Medical Examination and maintain a current medical card. This is a safety-sensitive position that is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as provided in DOT regulation CFR-Part 40, 49 CFR Part 655.
Supplemental Information
* Must be able to exercise independent judgment in daily activities and be sensitive to passengers with various disabilities on a daily basis.
* Ability to utilize onboard technology, including mobile data tablets and GPS.
* Must be able to drive in all weather conditions and in darkness.
* Ability to provide exceptional customer service to the public and fellow employees.
* One year of experience in the operation of a bus or heavy automotive equipment is preferred.
Operating schedule:
* LeeTran operates seven days a week, including some holidays. Normal hours of operation are 4:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m., with extended hours during seasonal service.
* Shifts and assignments:Day and evening shifts available. Shift schedules vary, and routes are selected by seniority at least semi-annually. Employees must be able to work any job assignment scheduled.
* Shift differential:Evening shifts offer additional compensation through shift differential.

NATURE OF WORK
Work is performed under general direction of the Transportation Supervisor.
This is skilled vehicle operation work in transporting passengers of a public transport system. Employees in this class operate passenger buses over prescribed routes within the City or on special charters (such as special events, camp program...). Additionally, work involves responsibility for the safe operation of passenger vehicles such as vans, minibuses, station wagons or automobiles in transporting clients. Incumbents typically transport individuals to clinics, doctors or other treatment facilities from private residences. Some employees in this class could also transport clients undergoing rehabilitation treatment at medical facilities or take clients shopping for basic necessities.
Drivers are responsible for the safety of their passengers and the vehicle operated as well as for completing the assigned route according to the prescribed time schedule. Duties involve collection and accountability for passenger fares according to an established rate schedule. Work requires the use of defensive driving skills and the courteous application of standard operating procedures, rules and regulations of the City. This is light manual work in the operation of motor vehicles used to transport residents of the City; typically frail, elderly, and disabled.
Dispatch duties include operating the dispatch radio and related equipment to dispatch work assignments and receive reports from bus drivers; receiving telephone calls, scheduling appointments, verifying pickups and returns and scheduling bus driver routes.
The incumbent works within the scope of established departmental rules, regulations and procedures but exercises independent judgment in coordinating efforts to resolve field problems.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Picks up assigned route materials from the supervisor; ensures that currency is in the correct amount and that route and schedule cards, trip sheet, are included.
* Starts vehicle, checks and adjusts equipment for proper operating condition; inspects body of coach for unreported damage, drives vehicle into roadway while making further checks.
* Proceeds to starting point of assigned route, checks time schedule and begins to board passengers at designated point.
* Operates door lever for doors; makes correct change, checks coin deposit.
* Answers passenger questions on connecting routes, passenger discharge zones, schedules, fares and provides general information as requested.
* Records required information on trip sheet, accounts for monies received, makes reports of any unusual incidents and turns in materials to cashier at the end of the shift; ensures that assigned vehicles are clean and adequately supplied with fuel; reports need for maintenance to supervisor.
* Submits reports on traffic accidents, passenger injury, vehicles or equipment malfunction and service complaints.
* Operates passenger vehicles to transport City residents to physician's offices, clinics or other medical treatment facilities; transport clients being treated under rehabilitation programs to clinics or other treatment or diagnostic facilities.
* Takes clients to and from shopping for basic needs; transports clients to and from Social Security or veterans offices and other social service needs.
* Operates radio and related equipment at dispatch desk in order to communicate with drivers and the public for the timely pick up and return of residents, dispatches work assignments and receive reports from drivers, receives calls, schedules pickups, verifies pickups and returns and schedules bus driver routes, assists with emergencies, notifies appropriate law enforcement agencies about accidents, instructs bus driver on proper procedures to follow and gives information to public relative to routes, schedules, and lost and found items.
* Keeps interior and exterior of vehicles clean and neat.
* Performs related work as required.

EDUCATION
* Graduation from an accredited high school, vocational school or possession of G.E.D. equivalency diploma.

o At the department's discretion and approval, regular part-time employees may use PTO.
o PTO may be used for sick or vacation time-off requests.
2) Employee must work a full fiscal quarter before they are eligible for any PTO:

7) Employees must use PTO earned in a fiscal year by the end of the following fiscal year or accrued time will be forfeited.

9) Any PTO used within a fiscal quarter will not count as time worked for future calculations of any benefit.

HOLIDAYS
1) Part-time employees are eligible to earn 4 hours of holiday pay for each official City-observed holiday.
o Currently ten (10) City holidays (4) hours of paid Holidays for a total of 40 hours per year).
o Employees receive four (4) hours of Holiday pay regardless of how many hours they work.
o No look-back period would be applicable.
2) If employee works on a City holiday, the employee will get paid for the actual hours worked plus receive four (4) hours of holiday pay.
3) If an employee is scheduled to work on a City holiday and calls out or fails to show up for work, the employee will not be eligible to receive holiday pay.
4) Holiday pay does not count as time worked.
