MISSION
The Freelance Assistant Editor/Media Manager supports the Video team across post-production, pre-production, and content capture workflows. This role handles post-production prep, archival systems, and assists with shoot pre-production, photoshoots, webinars, and small edits.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist editors with post-production prep (e.g., ingesting footage, pulling old project files, organizing timelines, etc.)
Support shoot pre-production needs (e.g., picking up small gear rentals, placing lunch orders, ordering car service, etc.)
Provide on-set or remote support for photoshoots and webinars, including screen sharing, media management, file intake, and basic troubleshooting
Execute basic edits (e.g., creating stringouts, resizing, end card swaps, social cutdowns, webinar edits, internal edits, etc.)
Manage short- and long-term media storage, as well as file-sharing software
Sync multi-camera projects
Distribute footage and media to internal and external partners
QA video exports before release to ensure final deliverables meet technical specs
Maintain organized archival systems for both short- and long-term storage
Requirements
1+ years of video post-production experience
Knowledge of technical specs, file sizes, and social platform safety guidelines
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop)
Knowledge of Google Suite (Drive, Sheets, Docs, etc.)
Familiarity with pulling stock footage, stills, music comps, and final files
Experience supporting photoshoots, webinars, or small-scale productions a plus
Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work
Ability to adapt to changing schedule demands and multitask effectively
Commitment to meeting deadlines

The Oklahoman, in partnership with the Indigenous Journalists Association (IJA) and the Kirkpatrick Foundation, is offering a 10-week, full-time, paid summer internship for three Native American and Indigenous students who are passionate about journalism. We are looking for talented individuals eager to gain professional-level reporting experience and tell compelling stories about communities across Oklahoma.
Included will be covered travel and attendance at the annual IJA Conference and a free student membership to IJA for one year. While mentorship and coaching are provided, interns are expected to work independently in a deadline-driven environment.
Interns will cover breaking news, trending topics, and feature stories, working alongside reporters, photographers, videographers, editors, and the audience team to expand their reach on social media. Journalists with video skills and a strong interest in video journalism are strongly encouraged to apply.
This job may include evening and weekend hours, depending on the newsroom's needs and the intern's schedule.
Requirements:
Must be college students eligible for IJA membership.
Journalism majors are preferred, but students from related fields are also considered.
Previous experience in journalism is a plus (internships, freelance work, or student media).
Strong writing, reporting, and fact-checking skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced newsroom and meet deadlines.
Language skills beyond English are a plus.
This role requires a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
