You Will:
Work collaboratively with the Intake team across all offices to support the full intake process including, but not limited to, supporting staff during time on the intake queue
Provide project support as part of the continuous work of improving efficiencies in the Intake process, including LegalServer fluency and script builds and adjustments
Provide assistance to staff with intake questions, including substantive law, eligibility and procedural questions, in broad range of areas
Assist the team with the intake queue, online intake, and community referrals
Gather and prepare data from the case management system among others to include in reports for LSC self-inspection audits
Help support the organization through an understanding of and compliance with LSC and program regulations and requirements. These include established intake procedures, PAI requirements, RFP requirements, financial requirements, eligibility screening, priorities, conflict checking, and confidentiality, among others
Support compliance with program administrative requirements including statistical reports and LSC and other governmental reporting requirements
Remain current on emerging legal topics and identify trends related to relevant areas of law
Collaborate across departments to assist with pulling data from the case management system as well as implementing changes to the case management system to comply with grant requirements
Support other areas of growth for our intake teams including but not limited to the development of materials and resources, fair housing intake, a housing hotline, and more.

Position Overview: A Staff Attorney in the Educator Preparation, Certification and Enforcement (EPCE ) Law and Policy Division ensures Texas educators are worthy to instruct students and are in compliance with Texas law and administrative rules by bringing contested cases before the State Office of Administrative Hearings on behalf of the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) and the Commissioner of Education.

Purpose

Responsibilities
Conduct intake interviews with clients; prepare clients for court appearances and/or USCIS interviews.
Ensure adequate representation for CWS clients at USCIS and EOIR, including but not limited to: Immigration Interviews, Asylum Hearings; Master/Individual Calendar Hearings; and submission of briefs to the Board of Immigration Appeals. Qualifications
Education: JD degree with specialization in Immigration law. Must be licensed to practice law in any jurisdiction (state Bar preferred). Experience with immigration representation and other areas of Immigration law, including asylum representation and working with vulnerable populations.

Represent clients through all phases of legal proceedings including:
Preparation of pleadings and legal documents
Legal research and case analysis
Discovery and evidence collection
Negotiations and settlement discussions
Trial litigation and, if necessary, appellate advocacy
Community Engagement and Legal Education
Participate in outreach efforts to raise awareness of legal services
Engage with partner organizations and community stakeholders to expand access to justice
Team Collaboration and Support
Provide guidance and support to legal staff and interns as needed
Contribute to a collaborative team culture focused on mission-driven outcomes
Requirements:
Required Skills/Abilities:
Basic Requirements:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
Admitted to practice law in Nebraska, or ability to obtain admission within six months
Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation for court and outreach work
Preferred Requirements:
Experience working with low-income or vulnerable individuals
One or more years of experience in civil legal practice
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent oral and written communication
Proficiency in legal research tools and case management systems
Ability to manage time effectively and handle a diverse caseload
Demonstrated commitment to public interest or poverty law
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish or another language commonly spoken by client populations
Physical Requirements:
Primarily office-based with general office conditions
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods and operate standard office equipment
Ability to travel across the state as needed for client meetings, court appearances, and outreach events.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
