SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The original VCF operated from 2001-2004. On December 18, 2015, President Obama signed into law a bill reauthorizing the Act and extending the Fund for five years. The VCF is embarking on an exciting initiative to support its claim review process. The Claim Review Support Team will work with VCF and claim review leadership to support all aspects of the claim review process, with particular emphasis on claim and data management, claim assessment, knowledge management and training coordination.

This includes placing claims on NIOSH and Third-Party feeds, identifying missing documentation and information, and procedurally denying claims.
Document Processing: Responsible for processing Change of Attorney and Third-Party Verification letters received through the respective inboxes, as well as the Intake team. This involves proper categorization and labeling of incoming emails, confirming sufficiency of each form, ensuring no PII data discrepancies during processing, proper identification of claims, and upload of documents with zero PII misfiles.
Reassessment: Responsible for reviewing end-state claims with newly uploaded files to integrate back into the claims review processes. This includes reviewing the SOP Chart of documents submitted to guide if the submitted documents warrant reactivation of claims and if warranted, routing claims to the appropriate claims review process.
Special Projects: Works on special projects as assigned, focusing on document review, claim review, and coordination.

**Responsibilities:**
The Paralegal works under the direction of Supervisory Paralegal. In this role, you will perform litigation services while complying with established procedures, including but not, but not limited to the following:

(a) Mission Statement. Communication with our claimants is an essential part of the daily work at the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund ("VCF"). The Correspondence Team is responsible for the generation and quality control of all outgoing correspondence - which spans acknowledgements, notifications, requests for information, and decision letters - to our claimants and their attorneys on behalf of the Fund. The timely and accurate production of the various written communication is critical to the complete review of our claims and the issuance of payment on those claims.
Under the direction of VCF Correspondence Manager, Paralegal will perform the following tasks while complying with established VCF and Correspondence Standard Operating Procedures.
(b) Responsibilities/Duties.
The Paralegal/LegalAssistant I works under close supervision with required assistance readily available
Generate outgoing daily correspondence using SOP template under supervision by the Correspondence Manager and Team Lead
Track and complete ad hoc and custom correspondence requests
Perform quality control on their own work product, including but not limited to:
Assessing addresses for completeness and accuracy
Confirming standard letter types conform to expected layout and content, based on pre-established templates
Confirm that certain claim-specific data was transferred to the relevant letters correctly, such as eligible conditions and Missing Information requests
Ensure all daily correspondence is mailed and uploaded to claims daily
Complete tracking spreadsheets and report on task progress as required
Conduct routine database searches
Support other PAAQC teams - Payment, Appeals, Assessment/Claim Review Support, Quality Review, and Cold Review- when requested
(c) Qualifications.
Able to work closely and professionally with the VCF Special Master's Office, Helpline and Intake Teams, and colleagues in the PAAQC teams
Consistently and accurately perform detailed work under pressure
Pay close attention to detail, deadlines and quality control
Read and follow instructions and VCF and Correspondence Standard Operating Procedures
Develop a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of all correspondence templates, inserts, forms, and applications, under the guidance of the Correspondence Manager and Team Lead
